A Hollywood film crew is producing a big-screen version of Warrior Angel and using Smallville as a filming location for the superhero epic. Chloe is watching the production out near the Kent farm, where Clark has volunteered the farm as a location. She’s busy trying to forget her breakup with Jimmy, while working to create a fake identity for Kara. Clark and Chloe watch as the star, Rachel Davenport, goes by while ignoring the press. She is filming a driving sequence but the car goes out of control for real when the breaks don’t work. Clark superspeeds into position so that he can catch Rachel as she’s thrown clear of the out-of-control car. She’s impressed with Clark.

The next day, Lana pays Clark a visit and congratulates him on saving Rachel. Rachel herself asks Clark to meet her at the Talon to thank her. As they talk, Clark convinces Rachel to give Chloe an exclusive interview. Chloe has been doing some research and confirms that the police report shows that the brake cables of Rachel’s car were cut.

Lois is working on a story about Lex buying land near the recently devastated dam when Grant Gabriel demands to know why she wasn’t on top of the Rachel Davenport story. He isn’t impressed with her efforts, or the fact there is only one building, a cabin, and tells her to find a more interesting story than real estate.

Inside the cabin, Lionel wakes up and discovers that he’s locked to the bed with a bear trap. A young woman, Marilyn, is watching over him. She makes a call to her employer to tell them that Lionel is awake.

At the barn, Rachel meets with Clark and asks him to help her rehearse a scene where she meets with Guardian Angel from the movie. He avoids ending the scene with the scripted kiss, and fortunately Lana arrives. Rachel admits she’s staying at the barn to avoid the press. After she goes, Lana reveals she’s been reading up on the fan reaction to the movie, and notes that many of them are unhappy that the writers changed the comic book and let Guardian Angel’s girlfriend live.

Clark pays Lex a visit and they discuss the comic. Lex, a long-time fan, is familiar with the issue where the villain Devilicus shoots Guardian Angel’s girlfriend, who dies in the hero’s arms.

Later on set, a production assistant secretly puts real bullets instead of blanks into the Devilicus character’s gun. Clark is there watching as they film the scene, as is the production assistant. Clark x-rays the gun and realizes there are real bullets in it. He secretly superspeed catches it and gets off set, unaware that the production assistant has seen him and knows what he can do.

Lois tries to sneak into Lex’s LuthorCorp office but he catches her. When she asks him about the land purchase, he says he doesn’t have any secrets left and hasn’t made any land purchases. Lois points out that the initials LL are on the purchase forms, but Lex still denies any knowledge of the land. However, as he has her escorted out he wonders about what she’s revealed.

Lionel tries to get free without success. He breaks a glass and then apologizes to Marilyn. He manages to get her close enough so that when she picks up the glass, he can knock her out and then get outside into the woods.

Clark returns home to find the press trying to get a story on him and a naked Rachel getting a massage. At the door is a package addressed to him by name. Inside is an issue of Warrior Angel and a message telling him to save the world. Realizing that the stalker is coming after him and Rachel, he quickly gets Rachel covered up and out.

Lionel tries to escape through the woods but Marilyn’s employer arrives and knocks him out from behind. It’s Lois, who takes Lionel back to Marilyn and tells her not to screw up. Clark calls and Lana covers up where she is, and promises to pick up Rachel and take her somewhere for safekeeping. Clark checks in with Chloe, who tracks the comic book to a Ben Meyers, the production assistant. Clark goes to Meyers’ apartment and discovers that he’s watching the place by remote webcam. Myers tells him that Clark needs help saving the world, but he doesn’t know it yet.

Lex goes to investigate the cabin. He finds Lionel chained to the bed and Marilyn watching over him. She draws a gun on Lex but turns her back on Lionel. Lionel savagely attacks her, almost beating her to death, before Lex stops him just in time.

As Rachel and Lana wait at an apartment, Rachel realizes that Clark loves Lana and apologizes to Lana for hitting on him. Unfortunately, Meyers has followed them and tasers Rachel unconscious. Lana puts up a fight but Meyers subdues her. Realizing that Lana is Clark’s girlfriend, he decides that for Clark to fulfill his destiny, life has to emulate art and Lana must die.

Clark has gone back to Chloe’s so she can check Meyers’ hard drive. They figure the obsessed fan will try to duplicate the events of the comic and kill the hero’s girlfriend. Clark races to the apartment and leaps off the apartment balcony to catch Lana just as Meyers throws her to her death. They land on the ground below and then embrace.

Lois presents her new story about Lionel’s reappearance, but Grant is unimpressed. He repeats his instructions for her to stay away from Luthor stories and then invites her to dinner. She refuses, telling him he’d be better off publishing the story.

Lionel visits Lana at the farm. He accuses her of being the one who hired Marilyn and arranged his imprisonment. Lana denies the accusation and warns him against telling Clark. He tells her that she needs to let Clark go before it’s too late.

Lex visits Meyers at Belle Reve. He gives him some rare Guardian Angel comics and says he’s there to listen to whatever Ben has to say. Ben just smiles and says nothing, keeping Clark’s secret.

Rachel brings a present to Clark at the farm and tells him that she’ll be back in Smallville for the sequel. She admits that exposure to him has altered her own outlook on life. After she leaves, Lana notes that Meyers said that there are people who need to look up to a hero like Clark, and that’s more important then what she needs. Clark says he has everything that he wants, and Lana walks away. Clark then opens Rachel’s present and finds she has given him a red Guardian Angel cape.
