Lara - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Sometime in the past, Zor-El brings his daughter Kara to his fortress/laboratory in Kandor. He warns her that the Council has sealed all of the portals to prevent the escape of Zod and his followers, and she’ll have to take a spaceship. He gives her a crystal and explains that it’s her way to get back to him, and that he’ll be staying on Kandor.

On Earth in the present, Kara remembers this as she hovers in the air above Washington D.C. A passenger plane barely misses her as she flies down into the city.

Chloe is doing research on an outreach operation for meteor freaks, the Isis Foundation, when Clark comes in to the Daily Planet. She lets him know that the FAA has spotted Kara on the East Coast. Jimmy comes in and after a little prying, he explains that he helped repair the video image from Lois’ camera, then showed it to Kara. As Clark leaves, Jimmy gets in a remark about Kara trusting him when Chloe doesn’t.

Clark goes to meet with Lionel at LuthorCorp. After making sure he’s okay after his ordeal, gets Lionel to tell him about a government project that investigated Smallville after the meteor showers. Lionel figures that they’ve found something that piqued their interest and tells Clark about their operations in Smallville.

Agent Walker is having his technicians analyze the crystal and meets with Lex, who is working with him. Lex wants to know what Walker’s found out but the agent keeps him in the dark. Lex warns that not a good idea and will eventually find out what he needs to know.

Kara goes to a party in Washington and, using her superhearing, pinpoints a technician who works in Walker’s lab. She comes on to him and gets him into a backroom, and he eventually reveals where the lab is and that they’re working on the crystal. She steals his access card and superspeeds away to the lab. She breaks in but finds the crystal is gone.

Chloe goes to the Isis foundation but finds Lana there. Chloe lies that she’s researching a story and Lana explains that she runs the foundation but doesn’t want Chloe to tell Clark, as he’d just get concerned. Chloe is suspicious but accepts Lana’s story, mostly so Lois won’t pry into her secret.

Kara goes back to the technician to get some answers out of him but Clark arrives and stops her from hurting the guy. Kara feels betrayed that Clark won’t believe her and is taking the Martian Manhunter’s word about her father. When Clark tries to stop her, she shoves him away and flies away, leaving him behind.

Kara goes to the Daily Planet and gets Jimmy to help her access the government files. She finds a LuthorCorp military factory and figures that’s where the crystal is, and superspeed sneaks away from Jimmy and goes to Luthor Manor.

Lana is watching the surveillance cameras of the manor when Kara arrives and uses her x-ray vision to find a hidden vault. Walker arrives with kryptonite and weakens her enough to put a pair of meteor-laced handcuffs on her. Lex arrives and tries to protect her, but Walker thinks he’s working with Kara and shoots him with a tranquilizer dart. Lana sees what’s happened and calls Clark, claiming she’s using her “contacts” to find Kara’s whereabouts.

An angry Clark goes to confront Lex, who says that Kara is that lab in Washington and is curious why Walker would be interested in Clark’s cousin. Clark quickly gets out and runs to Washington.

Walker is using a memory-scanning device on Kara, who is still weakened from the kryptonite. He starts scanning her memories and gets images of her from 1986, visiting her Aunt Lara at the Kents’ barn. Both of them are visiting Earth through a teleportation portal. Lara explains that she’s pregnant and the Kents are the family Jor-El chose on a previous visit, to raise his son. Kara swears she’ll take care of her cousin no matter what.

Walker then turns up the scan and gets a new memory of Lara and Kara sneaking into the Kent house while they’re at church. Kara comes up with the name “Kal-El” for her nephew, then uses a Polaroid to take a picture of Lara. They hide it behind a photo of Martha Kent, then Zor-El bursts in.

Clark bursts in but is weakened by the kryptonite. He manages to knock out Walker and tries to free Kara, and starts seeing the same memories. In the memories, Zor-El sends Kara outside and then asks Lara to stay with him on Earth. When he finds out she’s pregnant, he says he’ll protect the child that is nothing but a science project to the cold emotionless Jor-El. Lara realizes that he’s stolen a sample of her DNA and put it in a crystal. Kara comes back in and Zor-El uses a Kryptonian device to wipe her memories of the incident. Kara flatlines and Walker wakes up, trying to kill Clark from behind. Fortunately, Lionel comes in and shoots walker and Clark revives Kara.

Later back in Smallville, Clark and Kara recover the photo and Kara admits that her father may not have been the man she idolized. Clark figures that Zor-El still loved her, and Kara apologizes to him for thinking he betrayed her.

Lionel goes to see Lex and the two spar back and forth. Lex believes Lionel is more interested in Clark then him, while Lionel warns that Lex may be in over his head with his new obsession with anyone close to Clark.

Kara meets with Jimmy and apologizes for sneaking away and thanks him for being her friend. Chloe comes in and notices, and tries to get Jimmy to go out to lunch with her as a friend. He turns her down and she warns Jimmy that Kara might not be everything he expects.

At the barn, Clark comes clean with Lana and shows her first the picture of his birth mother... then the crystal, which he stole from the lab.
