Persona - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Bizarro, pretending to be Clark, is in bed watching Lana sleep. She wakes up and they kiss, and then he suggests they leave Smallville and go see the world. He offers to fly her to France but she’s skeptical, and goes to let some sunlight in. Behind he, the beams strike Bizarro, causing him to go rocklike. He convinces her to close the drapes and come back to bed with him.

Grant Gabriel goes to Lionel’s office and shows him DNA evidence confirming he’s a clone of Julian Luthor. Lionel is taken aback but then asks for the chance for the two of them to get to know each other better.

Lana is at the foundation and tells Bizarro-Clark that she’s found report of homeless persons who have turned up dead, all the trace metals missing from their bodies. They conclude that Brainiac is stealing the material to rebuild itself, and Lana determines the central area of the attacks. Bizarro-Clark superspeeds there and finds Brainiac in his human form, draining the trace metal from rats and looking the worse for war. He knows who Bizarro is, and Bizarro asks for his help removing his transformation to sunlight so he can stay with Lana. Brainiac says he can’t help but tells Bizarro to find Dax-Ur, a Kryptonian who came to Earth through one of the portals and stayed. Dax-Ur, like all the traveling Kryptonians, had a personal shield device that functioned as a tracker. If Bizarro can find that, he’ll find Dax-Ur.

Bizarro goes to the Daily Planet to see Chloe, who is more concerned that Lex is firing anyone disloyal to him since he took over as owner. She doesn’t have time to find the shield and asks him about the one he and Kara found earlier. Bizarro doesn’t know about it and tries to cover as best he can, but Chloe suspects something is up and still refuses to help.

Lex meets with Lionel at the manor and asks about Grant’s visit. Lex knows that Lionel knows, but his father is shocked that Lex would have cloned his own brother and angrily leave.

Lana returns to the farm to find Chloe waiting for her. Chloe tries to explain something is wrong with “Clark” but Lana doesn’t believe her. Bizarro arrives and informs Chloe that he and Lana are leaving Smallville. Upset, Chloe leaves and Lana tells Bizarro what she said. Lana mentions the shield and suggests that Kara might have hidden it at the Fortress in the Arctic. Bizarro superspeeds up there and calls out to the Jor-El computer program, which tells him to leave. Bizarro is unimpressed, since Jor-El can’t do anything against him. In response, Jor-El secretly frees the real Clark from his icy prison.

Clark superspeeds back to the farm and explains where he’s been to Lana. She eventually believes him but Bizarro is listening in with superhearing and goes to Brainiac to get help so that he can keep Lana. Brainiac insists that he find Dax-Ur and offers to distract Clark.

Clark goes to Lionel’s office and asks for help, hoping Lionel has some knowledge from when he was Jor-El’s emissary. Lionel says that Bizarro can be destroyed using blue kryptonite, which will cause him to explode: the opposite of when it depowered Clark. Lionel says that Dax-Ur, a geologist from Krypton, is living on Earth and can guide Clark to more blue kryptonite, and Clark must use the shield to find him. Clark leaves to get the shield but after he’s gone, “Lionel” changes back into the ailing Brainiac.

Clark goes to the Daily Planet to ask for Chloe’s help, but she doesn’t believe him until he exposes himself to sunlight and doesn’t turn rocky. She gives him the shield device, which she hid after “Clark” started acting it. Clark activates it and teleports to a garage in Arizona, unaware that Brainiac knows where he’s gone. He talks to the mechanic and identifies him as Dax-Ur. Dax-Ur explains that he helped create Brainiac and traveled to Earth as penance. There he met an Earth woman, fell in love, and had a child. To do so, he used a piece of blue kryptonite on a bracelet to render himself powerless, but agree to give it to Clark.

Lana is hiding at Oliver Queen’s penthouse when Bizarro arrives. She’s initially fooled thinking he’s Clark but catches a glimpse of him in sunlight and knows who he is. She slips away to “get her bag” and text messages Clark, but Bizarro spots her and confronts her. He insists he would never hurt him, and Clark arrives and tries to hit him with the blue kryptonite. Bizarro knocks him away and the blue kryptonite goes flying to where Lana grabs it. Bizarro asks her to spare him, saying he knows everything Clark knows, and Clark will never commit to her. He points out that she said she was the happiest she’d ever been while with him. She considers what he’s said, takes his hand… and puts the blue kryptonite in it. He staggers back and starts to blow up, but manages to say “I love you” before dying.

Later, Brainiac travels to Dax-Ur’s garage, having learned the location early, and introduces himself. When Dax-Ur realizes who he is, he tries to remove the blue kryptonite to regain his powers. Brainiac stops him and then extends metal probes directly into his brain to gain the knowledge of how to fix himself.

Lex fires Grant as editor of the Planet but Grant is pleased, insisting he’ll have more time to be with Lionel. Lex tries to warn him that Lionel is dangerous, but Grant ignores him and leaves. He and Lionel go out for supper but outside, a mugger holds them up. He shoots Grant down and runs away… and calls Lex to let him know Grant is dead. Having lost his brother, again, Lex goes outside in the rain and screams in fury.

At the Kent farm, the real Clark and Lana are back together, but things are tense between them after Bizarro stating Clark would never commit to her.
