Fracture - Recap

Lex is in Detroit tracking an amnesiac Kara, with Lois following him. The two of them end up in a junkyard where Lex finds Kara’s wrist bracelet. Lois goes off on her own and finds Kara locked up in a fenced enclosure, and realizes that she has amnesia. Kara’s captor, Finley, grabs Lois and holds a gun on her. Lex finds them and demands Finley surrenders, and Lois breaks his grip and gets clear. Lex and Finley exchange shots: Finley takes a bullet to the shoulder while Lex is shot in the forehead and collapses in the rain.

Finley locks Lois together with Kara. After he leaves, Kara explains that she woke up in Detroit with no idea who she is, and got a job as a waitress at a diner where Finley worked as a busboy and became infatuated with her.

In Smallville, Lionel has had Lex med vacced to the medical center. The doctors have removed the bullet but warn that Lex may never recover consciousness. Clark and Chloe arrive and Lionel explains that the Detroit police found Lex and have Lois’ phone with a picture of Lex and Kara on it. After Lionel leaves, Clark and Chloe realize that Kara has lost her powers from a bandage she’s wearing, and Chloe suggests she use her newfound powers to heal Lex and find out where Lois and Kara are. Clark refuses to let her, insisting it’s too dangerous since she went into a deathlike coma when she healed Lois.

Clark and Chloe go to Lana who checks the LuthorCorp computers and determines they were involved with Project Intercept. The project used a mind-linking device to let an interrogator enter a subject’s memories, but it proved fatal. Clark insists he can survive and they contact Lionel, who sets them up at a facility with the equipment and the comatose Lex. The doctor in charge warns that Clark will be at risk and the risk grows as he goes further into Lex’s mind. They also program a “red door” that signifies Clark’s escape route when he wants to leave Lex’s memories.

Clark links up with Lex and finds himself in a ruined hallway with a red door nearby. He moves through the building, unaware that a young boy is following him. Clark finds a door that leads to a memory of Lex meeting with Kara at the diner in Detroit. She’s going by the name “Linda Lee” and works there as a waitress. Lex chats with her, enjoys the pie, and suggests he can get the best possible medical care to help her regain her memories.

A white-suited Lex grabs Clark and pulls him out of the room, recognizing him as an intruder and telling him to get out. The young boy tackles “Lex” and knocks him out, and introduces himself as Alexander. He’s the “good” side of Lex’s mind, and the more powerful evil “Lex” keeps trying to destroy him. Alexander gets Clark to safety and promises to find the memory of Kara’s location. Clark goes to another room with Lex’s childhood memory of when his father Lionel accused him of going through a briefcase. Alexander finally admits that his mother Lillian was the one who went through the briefcase. Lillian comes in and demands to know what “Veritas” is. Lionel knocks her to the ground and leaves, while an angry Lillian accuses Alexander of betraying her.


Clark then finds the memory-room where Lex is planning to take Kara back to Smallville. Kara goes to thank Finley the busboy, while Clark sees the memory of Lois coming in, having followed Lex to Detroit. She’s used her cell phone to take a photo of Lex and Kara together and plans to reveal it to Clark.

In the real world, Clark and Lex’s brains synchronize and the doctors have no way to pull Clark out. In Lex’s mind, “Lex” finds Clark again and forces him to watch his memories of making love to Lana when they were married. Clark gets away and finds Alexander, who has discovered the missing memory. Alexander takes Clark to the memory of the junkyard encounter where Clark manages to see the GPS Lex was using. He gets Finley’s address and prepares to leave, but sees “Lex” hauling Alexander away.

Chloe arrives at the facility and discovers that Lex is dying, and will take Clark with him. She offers to save Lex.

“Lex” takes Alexander to his study in the memory-manor and prepares to kill him. Clark arrives and fights him, but “Lex” just laughs. However, he fades away as Chloe heals his injury in the real world. Clark heads for the red door to escape and finds Alexander. Clark tells Alexander to keep fighting to win out as Lex’s good side, and he’ll do what he can in the real world. Clark manages to “escape” just in time. Chloe is in a coma, so Clark tells Lionel to let her heal on her own, then superspeeds to Detroit.

Lois has managed to get the gate open but Finley arrives and prepares to shoot her. Kara refuses to let him and he has no choice but to shoot her as well rather than go back to prison. Clark arrives, drops a pile of cars between Finley and the women, then throws him into a pile of rubbish and runs away before Lois can see him.

Back in Smallville, Lionel comes to see Lex as he’s checking out. Lionel lies, claiming that he used the last vial he had of Queen Industries’ regenerative formula. Lex doesn’t believe that Lionel gave it up for him but his father says he was afraid he’d never get the chance to say he loved his son. Lex just walks away, unconvinced.

Chloe is recovering at her apartment when Clark arrives and says it took her 18 hours to come out of her death-coma this time. Chloe still insists it was her decision to make, not his, but wonders why she was chosen for such a power.

Clark barges into Lex’s manor and demands explanation, and Lex insists that he tried to call Clark but Lana hung up on him. Lex tells him not to care whether Lex is lying but Clark insists he does care and he suggests that Lex listen to the voice of good inside of him.

Kara is back at the Talon and meets with Lex, who gives her her job back. She still has amnesia and thinks that Clark is keeping secrets from her. She wonders why Clark and Lex are no longer friends and Lex says that he finally grew up. He promises to help restore her memories so that they have the truth, once and for all.
