Traveler - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Lionel receives an unmarked envelope sealed with wax. He opens it and carefully studies the single piece of paper inside.

Clark goes to the barn and recovers the metal octagon/key to the Fortress from its hiding place inside a book. He hears a noise and is shot with a taser dart filled with kryptonite. A mercenary attacks him and Clark manages to fend him off and remove the dart. However, other mercenaries come in and shot Clark with more darts, knocking him unconscious.

An hour or too later, Lana and Chloe arrive. Lana explains to Chloe that they had learned that Kara had moved in with Lex, so Clark was going to take her to the Fortress in the hope of unlocking her memories. They find the Fortress key and realize that something must have happened to Clark before he could complete his mission. Lana finds a kryptonite taser dart lying on the floor of the barn.

Clark wakes up in a cage with kryptonite-filled bars, in an airstrip hanger. The mercenary that initially fought him, Pierce, increases the radiation to torture and weaken him while noting that if he turns it up to full then Clark will die.

Lionel meets with the person who sent him the note: Patricia Swann, daughter of Dr. Swann. She reveals that she has gone through her father's research and realizes that when she was child, four families gathered to discuss the mysterious Traveler from the stars. The families were the Swanns, the Queens, the Teagues, and Lionel. Together the four families formed a group, Veritas, to protect the Traveler. Patricia accuses Lionel of killing all the others so he could have the Traveler to himself, but Lionel denies it. Patricia warns Lionel that if he doesn't turn over the Traveler to her, she'll release the evidence she has connecting Lionel to the others' deaths.

Lex goes to Kara's room at his manor and assures her that his memory recovery operation the next day will restore her to normal. He leaves and tells his doctor to continue monitoring Kara and seal the place if there's any signs that she is recovering her memories.

Lionel arrives at the hanger and tells Pierce to stop torturing Clark. He turns to his office and argues with Patricia over the phone, then breaks off the call when Chloe and Lana arrive. They ask for his help and he promises to check his government contacts. When they show him the taser dart, he says it's from a military manufacturing company that Lex owns. The women are skeptical, since Lionel is the only other person who knows about Clark's weakness to kryptonite. Lionel implicates Kara and Lex, and Lana vows to kill Lex if he's responsible. Lionel insists that she let him handle Lex if necessary.

Later, Lana confirms that Lex owns the company but Chloe has check building permits and located the airstrip hanger... and the fact Lionel owns it. They decide they need to rescue Kara and get her to the Fortress so she can recover her memories. Lana reveals she knows about an escape passage in Lex's manor that she learned of during her marriage.

Patricia meets with Lex at the manor and he notices the swan locket that she's wearing, a gift from her father. She shows Lex a painting that he drew as a child, with the Veritas symbol. She suggests that Veritas was a secret organization involving their families, and that Lionel knows more about it then he's saying. Lex confronts Lionel with the information and threatens to go back to Patricia if Lionel won't tell him the truth. After he leaves, Lionel calls Patricia and says that he received her "message," and he's ready to deal.

Lana and Chloe sneak into the manor while Lex prepares to take Kara to the recovery facility. The monitors are cut off and Lex orders his men to check on Kara. Chloe and Lana get Kara out just ahead of Lex and his men arriving. Chloe then uses the key to get Kara to the fortress through the portal and calls out to Jor-El, asking him to trust her. A beam of light envelops Kara and restores her memory and powers.

Patricia goes to the hanger to meet with Lionel and demands that Clark be freed in return for her evidence against Lionel. First she asks to see Clark and warns that if he is Traveler, she's leaving with him. Pierce knocks her out and Lionel grabs the briefcase with the evidence. He tells Pierce to take Patricia to her home, but the mercenary refuses and holds Lionel at gunpoint. He insists that Clark is a threat to the nation and plans to kill him. He knocks out Lionel and turns the cage's radiation up to 100%. However, Kara bursts in and destroys the main controls, then throws the cage up into the booth, stunning Pierce. She frees Clark but Pierce grabs the taser gun and prepares to shoot them both. Lionel saves them by hitting Pierce across the back with a pipe, knocking him to the floor where he lands on the wreckage and is impaled.

Later, Clark meets with Patricia and she gives him Dr. Swann's journal. It contains all of his writings, including the prophecies that Clark will bring great change to Earth. Clark is concerned that he can't live up to the future predicted for him, but Patricia assures him that he can do it. She warns that Lionel is a murderer and will do anything to have Clark to himself. He refuses to go with her but she informs him that she'll be living in Metropolis and Clark can come to her whenever he needs an ally.

Clark goes to visit Lionel who tries to convince him that Patricia was making threats, and he hid Clark away for his own safety. He had the cage prepared for other Kryptonians, and just happened to have it available to contain Clark until his safety was assured. Clark isn't buying it and tells Lionel to stay away from him. Later, he and Kara talk and they both wonder how the Luthors could betray them so easily. Even Clark is forced to admit that father and son are both lost causes.

Patricia is driving to Metropolis when her drive pulls off to the side of the road, pulls a gun, and kills her.

Later, Lex is at the manor and contemplates her bloody swan locket.
