Lois is attending a press award ceremony but discovers she isn't on the guest list and is unable to get in. Chloe arrives and offers her a ride. As the walk to her car, Lois claims about how she hasn't had any high-profile stories and she's losing her reputation. She complains that she's been trying to get an exclusive on the Red-Blue Blur via a public letter but he's ignored her. When Lois starts gushing about how wonderful the Blur is, Chloe suggests she might have a crush on the hero. Lois denies it, then stops to adjust her high-heel stiletto shoes. Two carjackers attack Chloe and one of them knocks her out. Lois goes after one crook while the other one escapes in Chloe's car. Lois knocks the man down and pins him with one foot on his chest. He squints up into the light and wonders if she's a superhero, and Lois tells him that she's "Stiletto."
Chloe is sent to the hospital and after a brief check-up, calls to make sure Davis is fine. She assures him she'll be back to the Talon basement shortly. Clark arrives to check in on her and Chloe lies about why she hasn't been around, saying she's been helping out Oliver and his team. She asks Clark to find her laptop, which was in the car. She's worried that the thief could somehow decrypt the information, including the files on Oliver's group.
Lois tries to convince her editor to run the Stiletto story, but he insists the need pictures. Clark arrives to talk to Lois, but she refuses to give him any info on the new heroine. When Clark says he's trying to learn more about the carjackers, Lois suggests she talk to the one that the police now have in custody.
Jimmy is working as a bartender at Ace of Clubs. Bruno Mannheim, the other carjacker, comes in. Jimmy asks him for an advance and Bruno reluctantly agrees, and then goes to see his boss, club owner Rick Milano. Milano is running a counterfeiting operation and using kryptonite to duplicate the metallic ink used for bills. Milano is unhappy that Bruno was engaged in petty street crime, but Bruno warns that superheroes are now taking over the streets and he intends to send a message. When Milano disagrees, Bruno shoots him and then takes over the operation. He tells his men that they're going to start by eliminating Stiletto.
Lois fashions a Stiletto costume for herself and then calls to set up a meeting with Jimmy. They meet in an alleyway where she pays him to shoot photos of her so she can give them to her editor. Once the story gets published, she figured the Red-Blue Blur will come looking for her and she can get her story.
Clark goes to Isis to met Chloe, and tells her the carjacker already made bail. Chloe brings up the Metropolis superhero web pages, where the posters want the Blur and Stiletto to get together. Chloe notes that Clark has been lonely since Lana left and she can't always be there for Clark, but Clark doesn't want a partner.
Back at the
Daily Planet, both Clark and Lois listen to the police radio while pretending to work on stories. When a jewelry store robbery is announced, hey both make excuses and leave separately.
Jimmy returns to the Ace of Clubs and Bruno notices his camera. He takes it and sees that Jimmy has pictures of both Chloe from the wedding, and Stiletto from the alleyway. Bruno tries to get Jimmy to tell him where he can find Stiletto, and beats him when Jimmy refuses to talk. Jimmy passes out rather than talk, and Bruno throws the camera over the ledge. He then tells his man to hack Chloe's laptop and figure out her connection to Stiletto.
Lois, disguised as Stiletto, arrives at the jewelry store but discovers the robber is already subdued. She figures the Blur beat her there. Clark comes up behind her and figures out immediately who she is despite Lois' best effort to disguise her voice. He removes her mask and says he came there to check out the story. Lois explains her plan to get an interview with the Blur by pretending to be a superhero. Clark warns that it's too dangerous, and that the Blur doesn't need a sidekick. He mentions the carjacker that made bail and Lois suggests they pursue that lead.
Bruno's man A.J. goes to the Talon and tries to force Chloe to talk. Before he can harm her, Davis attacks from the shadows and kills the man.
A little later, Lois comes to see Chloe and tries to find out if she knows where Jimmy is, since he's disappeared. Chloe admits that despite the fact they're separated, she's been keeping tabs on him. Lois finally admits to her cousin that she's Stiletto, and is worried that something may have happened to Jimmy because of her superhero activities. Chloe, nervous about the hidden Davis, considers telling her about him but then tries to get rid of her and says she can find Jimmy at the club. Lois thanks her for understanding.
Clark checks the club and hears Bruno in the back as his man finds the files on the heroes. Clark races in at superspeed but is stopped dead by the kryptonite ink. He collapses and Bruno kicks him repeatedly, while an unconscious Jimmy lies bleeding in a corner.
Lois goes to the club and finds Jimmy's camera in the parking lot. She climbs up to the roof and looks through the skylight, and sees Bruno beating Clark. She tires to call the police but her cell phone is dead. With no other choice, she drops through the skylight and takes on Bruno and his men. She manages to subdue them long enough for her to get to Jimmy. Bruno recovers and fires at her, and Clark leaps in the way and takes the bullet for her. Jimmy jumps Bruno, and Lois knocks the crook out. Jimmy calls in the emergency and Lois helps get Clark out while wondering why he took a bullet for her.
At the Talon, Chloe dumps garbage bags filled with A.J.'s remains into a garbage dumpster. As she sees the blood on her hands, she collapses, weeping.
Later, Lois is doting on Clark at the
Planet bringing him breakfast. It doesn't last long: she finally admits she may have made a mistake and is retiring as Stiletto, then takes Clark's breakfast.
Jimmy buys morphine using counterfeit cash he stole from Bruno's printing operation.
Clark returns the laptop to Chloe at the Talon. She's making a big meal and Clark wonders why. Chloe hastily explains that she cooks when she's stressed, but insists that she's fine. Clark tells her he'll always be there for her, but Chloe asks for some space for the time being.
Lois goes to a street corner after receiving a letter from the Red-Blue Blur. When a nearby pay phone rings, she answers it. Clark, using a voice scrambler, is calling her from a nearby rooftop. When she wonders if he's who he really claims, Clark superspeeds by and leaves her the issue of the newspaper where she published her open letter to him. Clark admits that she's a great reporter and doesn’t need a gimmick like Stiletto to get his attention. Lois admits that she's more interested in finding out what he needs, and that he must be lonely. She offers him company whenever he wants it. Clark thanks her and promises that if he ever reveals himself to the public, she'll be the first to know.
