The Flying Spaghetti Monster is a mock deity created to protest the decision by the Kansas State Board of Education that requires that intelligent design be taught in public schools as an alternative to evolution. The parody religion, called The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster was founded by Bobby Henderson, who claims his deity looks like spaghetti and meatballs, with "noodly appendages". Supporters of Henderson's ideas call themselves "Pastafarians".
