Episode Quotes

Alex: I like it. That's these boys playing?
Charles: No, that's Kansas. But these boys scored 100,000 points to it, on expert level in co-op mode.
Alex: ..that's pretty goddamn impressive.

Brett: Have you ever heard of.. Heroin Hero?
Stan: Heroin Hero?
Brett: It's a way easier game. All you do is run around a magical forest and shoot simulated heroin. You could call it the ultimate first-person shooter.
Stan: And there's no score? No crowds?
Brett: No man. All you do is run through the pretty forest and chase a big dragon. But you don't ever catch the dragon. You just.. keep chasing it.

Randy: Well you kids wanna see something really cool? Check this out.
(Randy picks up a guitar and starts playing Carry on Wayward Son)
Once, I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion. I was soaring ever higher. But I flew too high. Though my eyes could see I-
Stan: Dad? Dad! What are you doing?!
Randy: I can actually play a lot of these songs on a real guitar. You want me to teach you boys how?
Cartman: Uhh, that's gay, Mr. Marsh.
Stan: Yeah, that's stupid, Dad.
Randy: But... But this is real.
Cartman: Real guitars are for old people.

Manager: You've got real potential, kid. I have no doubt you can break a million.
Stan: Really? That'd be sweet.
Manager: I think you could. But uh, as for your friend, well, to be honest, I think he's holding you back.
Stan: What, you mean, Kyle?
Manager: Look, you score a lot higher than him; there's no question who the better one is. I wanna put you with some other players, find a partner for you who can really help you max your score.
Stan: But, Kyle and I always play together. We both chipped in for the game system.
Manager: Very honorable. But you know where loyalty gets you in a game like Guitar Hero? Nowheres. Just listen to that video crowd. I haven't heard a video crowd go that wild in a long time. You've got a chance to score a million points, and I hate to see you throw it away because you're worried about your friend's feelings.

(Stan and Kyle walk in and Randy is playing Heroin Hero)
Dragon: Come on, come on. You almost got me. Catch me. Come on.
Stan: Aw Goddamnit! Dad, get off our X-Box!
Randy: Hang on, I almost caught the dragon.
Stan: No, me and Kyle are gonna play Guitar Hero!
Randy: I can get him! Wait! Where's he going now?
Stan: You don't ever catch the dragon, Dad!
(Stan turns the Xbox off)
Randy: NO! NO I SAID! I AM YOUR FATHER! PUT IT BACK ON!

Episode Goofs

After Stan and Kyle achieve 100,000 points, they begin to celebrate. You can see that their guitars are unplugged to the power cords.

Not an unintentional goof, but when Kyle performs Guitar Hero at the bowling alley, the sign outside incorrectly reads "KILE BARFFLOSKI."

Cultural References

Title: Guitar Queer-o

The episode title is in reference to the popular video game franchise Guitar Hero, published by RedOctane and Activision. Most notable of the series is its use of a guitar-shaped peripheral rather than a traditional controller.

Visual: EV Games

The video game store that Stan is seen in is called EV Games. This is a parody of the video game retailer Electronics Boutique, or EB Games for short. In October of 2005, the store merged with other retailer powerhouse, GameStop, to form GameStop Corp.

Visual: VAUX

Randy's guitar amp is made by VAUX. This is a parody of the real amp company VOX.
