| (Recurring quote)
Cartman: I'm not just sure.. I'm HIV positive. | Waitress: I'm afraid AIDS benefits aren't as popular as they use to be. AIDS is more the 80s/90s disease. It's all about cancer now.
Cartman: Well that's just great! Of all the times to get AIDS, I get it right when everyone stops giving a crap. | Cartman: All right, now get the rope up over that third rafter above the window. That's the easiest access.
Butters: Wow.. you really know what you're doing.
Cartman: Yeah, I sneak in to Kyle's room lots of times. | Cartman: We have to see Magic Johnson right away. You see.. we have AIDS.
Airport Employee: AIDS? Wow, that's really.. retro. |
| |
| Visual: Cartman's hat and scarf

Both the striped scarf and black hat with the little "P" on it are references to the film Philadelphia (1993). In the movie, Tom Hanks is fired from his job at a law firm because he has AIDS. During the film he is wearing a scarf and hat identical to Cartman's in this episode. |
| |
| The subject of AIDS was also the main focus of the season 6 opening episode "Jared Has Aides," very similar to "Tonsil Trouble" being the season 12 opener. | Visual: Rosie O'Donnell picture
In Principal Victoria's office there is a photo framed of her next to Rosie O'Donnell. This is a reference to the episode "Trapper Keeper" when Rosie came to South Park elementary school. | Lambtron:
As Kyle is breaking toys in Cartman's room you can see a toy figure of Lambtron, which appeared in the episode "Chinpokomon." |
