Episode Quotes

Butters: I can't stop the Chinese tonight, Eric. I'm suppose to make a model car with my dad.

Cartman: I really don't care anymore, Butters. You see, I've learned something today. As Americans our fear of seeing another country become powerful can turn us into monsters. Watching how crazy you went. Watching you just.. shoot people in the dick like that. It made me realize that I want America to be safe, but not at the cost of losing its dignity. I'd rather us be.. Chinese.. than a nation of unethical dick shooters.

Detective Yates: Boys, we got 'em.
Kyle: What?
Detective Yates: Spielberg and Lucas. They were.. raping a stormtrooper when the police broke in.
Mitch: And they found the dead raped bodies of Yoda and Short Round in their closet. They'll never be free to do this again.

Cultural References

The Accused, Deliverance:

The second rape scene, in the arcade with the pinball machines, is a direct reference to the rape scene in the film The Accused (1988). Likewise, the third and final rape scene is a direct reference to the film Deliverance (1972) and it's infamous rape scene. In the original film, two hillbillies attack and rape a man. The line "I bet you can squeal like a pig. Weeeeeeee!" is also used in the episode, as well as the film.

Engrish:

The episode title, "The China Probrem," is spelled incorrectly on purpose. It refers to the non-standard variation of the English language known as Engrish. South Park often uses this stereotype when dealing with Asian characters on the show.

Dudweiser:

A sign on the wall during the second rape scene reads Dudweiser. This is a reference to Budweiser, an American-style lager which is one of the most popular beers in the United States. It is brewed by the Anheuser-Busch company.

Episode References

Steven Spielberg and George Lucas have made appearances in earlier episodes of South Park, both appearing in "Free Hat" during season six. Spielberg also appeared in the season five episode "Cripple Fight," when he defends the boys rally to support gays in scouting.
