| | This season saw the sex-change of Herbert Garrison in the opening scene of the first episode. This would set the tone for the rest of the season as we see Cartman finally doing battle with the hippies he so very hates. "Best Friends Forever" would go on to win an Emmy for the show; it's first. The front-end of the season would come to an end with "Erection Day," where we see Jimmy dealing with a problem most boys must deal with at some point. The remainder of the season sees Butters infiltrating a girls slumber party, global warming attacks South Park, Ms. Garrison trying to prevent gay marriage and a talking whale from the moon. "Trapped in the Closet" has now become a legendary episode, as it pokes fun at Tom Cruise and Scientology. The episode was later pulled before it could air again. The ninth season comes to an end with "Bloody Mary." The episode portrayed a bleeding statue of the Virgin Mary and a Catholic Civil Rights group quickly responded. The episode later met a fate much like that of "Trapped in the Closet." | |
