Spartacus: Vengeance

Spartacus: Vengeance

Spartacus: Vengeance (The first season's title was Spartacus: Blood and Sand) is a graphic and visceral account of Rome’s most famous gladiator. When he’s separated from the love of his life, Spartacus is forced into the gruesome and bloodthirsty arena, where a grisly death is primetime entertainment. Spartacus must fight for survival, befriend his enemies and play politics in this new world of corruption, violence, sex and fame. He’ll be seduced by power and tormented by vengeance. But his passion will give him the strength to prevail over every obstacle, in this modern and uninhibited tale of death, honor and endurance.

Originally starring Welsh-born Australian actor, Andy Whitfield (McLeod's Daughters) as Spartacus, Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess) as Lucretia, John Hannah (The Mummy, Four Weddings and A Funeral) as Batiatus and Peter Mensah (300, The Incredible Hulk) as Doctore, this unique mix of live action, graphic novel effects and brutal battle sequences is set to make Spartacus: Vengeance an epic television event.

The story continues in the second season, titled Spartacus: Vengeance, with Spartacus now played by Liam McIntyre.

Recaps
2x10: Wrath of the Gods recap: The episode begins, with Spartacus, looking down from Vesuvius; he and his men have at long last made it. He and his warriors plan a sneak attack on the Roman soldiers at the bottom, a desperate attempt to get food, no doubt, as they need supplies to sustain themselves. But the attack doesn’t go quite as planned, and amongst the bloody battle, someone close to Spartacus falls: Mira. She takes an axe to her chest; much to Spartacus’s horror and dismay. Spartacus carries her to safety trying his best in the process to save her, but it’s too late; Mira bleeds out, despite all his efforts, and all Spartacus can do is helplessly look on while she breathes her last... read more.

2x9: Monsters recap: The episode begins; a man peeing with relief in the forest is beset by three Roman soldier at dawn. The two men guarding the temple are also overpowered by them. The masked soldiers hop the wall and walk unhindered through the sleeping masses. Naevia spies them and screams "Romans!" A fight ensues until the soldiers unmask themselves to be Spartacus, Crixus, and Gannicus showing off the emergency Roman alert system. Oenemaus says they won't get caught unaware next time. Seppia sits staring at a pool in the early morning hours. Glaber comes to her to ask what's wrong. She's thinking about her brother. Glaber says they've both suffered immeasurably and should take comfort in each other and rubs her arm. She says she feels bad she didn't give him time to properly mourn his wife. He blows it off saying she's a fleeting memory. He takes down her top and starts making out with her... read more.

2x8: Balance recap: The scene opens with Gannicus dragging Ilythia through the forest. They are met by hunters who mention that Spartacus set upon a wagon and killed some people. He claims she is his wife. But she balks and spills the truth. So he kills them. She runs. She says Glaber will pay for her return. He says he doesn't see it forthcoming but that her life is not his to take. Mira and Spartacus flirt in the woods as they hunt. They make out. Gannicus appears and tells Spartacus to take the life of Glaber's woman. Lucretia is saying the kidnapping is all her fault since she slipped and told Gannicus she was on the road. Lucretia says Glaber's men must scour the forest or ask Rome for help. Glaber says word of this cannot reach Rome and have people whispering about him in the Senate. Lucretia pleads that she must be found... read more.

2x7: Sacramentum recap: The scene opens with a slave ship being liberated in typical blood-drawing fashion by Spartacus and Agron as previously planned; once again they exhibit their true warrior skills in this bloody battle. The slave warriors are a savage breed familiar to Agron; and thus Agron and Spartacus are hoping to get their assistance in their mission, as they alone would find it difficult to rage on their struggle against the Romans and thus would need all the help they can get in their endeavor. Meanwhile, even freshly freed, the band of ex-slaves is wild and borderline uncontrollable; it’s apparent why Spartacus and Agron would want them by their side; their aggression if properly channeled would prove to be a great asset for Spartacus and his men... read more.

2x6: Chosen Path recap: The scene opens with Spartacus, Crixus and the others, fresh from bringing the arena down, returning to the abandoned villa; the joy of rescuing Crixus clearly written on their weary faces. Crixus is reunited with Naevia; and both are apparently relieved and overjoyed at this reunion. They share tears and a promise of a more, um…proper reunion (more on this soon). Meanwhile, Gannicus is consumed with one thing: awaiting a return to consciousness by Oenomaus, for there is much he wants to say to him; and his anticipation knows no bounds. Meanwhile, Glaber and Ilithyia are listening to Albinius’ will; anticipation clearly written on their faces... read more.
