Whore - Recap

The Gladiators under Batiatus spar in the training area. Spartacus shows particular combat skill before speaking to Varro; questioning what disturbs his ability. Varro speaks of a letter he had sent to his lover and how she had not responded. Spartacus suggests that Varro shouldn't have called her a whore and Varro admits that he shouldn't have responded to strongly to her having a child. Spartacus suggests that Varro focus on the combat at hand and the scene concludes.

Lucretia continues with her previous actions of allowing different women access to the gladiators; arranging a meeting between the cousin of Marcus Crassus ( Licinia) and Spartacus. Lucretia assures her of the anonymity of the event and tells her to come alone. Illthyia then arrives unexpectedly stirring trouble amongst the three of them. Illthyia guesses that Licinia was there to arrange a meeting with a gladiator thereby comprising the anonymity of the meeting.

Batiatus speaks with his wife about the benefits of having Marcus Crassus as an ally and it is decided that Licinia and Spartacus meeting would be beneficial. Lucretia questions whether they will be able to persuade Spartacus to take part in such an event and Batiatus appears confident that all will go fine.

Batiatus speaks to Spartacus and tells him that he will be laying with Licinia, a woman of high social standing. Spartacus appears to follow obediently saying that he will take up the task without concern. Spartacus states that he will perform all duties required of him.

Crixus asks when he will be able to return to battle, he is told a week maybe two although insists on returning tomorrow. Asher then enters announcing that he will resume training as a gladiator despite his recent accomplishments elsewhere. It is revealed that Asher used to be a gladiator and wishes to return to the arena.

Batiatus begins talking to his wife of their future accomplishments, appearing confident that they can acquire the ear of Marcus Crassus. Lucretia questions the ability of Spartacus due to him having not been with a woman for some time. It is suggested that a slave be sent so that he may practice before pleasing Licinia.

The slave enters Spartacus' cell although he declines her, offended by her presence. She informs him that the Lucretia is questioning his ability to please Licinia and he sends her away, back to Batiatus.

Crixus meets Naevia covertly, they communicate through bars and Naevia expresses her sadness at not being able to truly have him before leaving.

Crixus returns to the training area only to be confronted by Asher, to whom everyone laughs at before Batiatus requests his presence. Batiatus states that Asher is not to return to the arena based on foolish pride and that he is far more useful outside of that gladiator arena.

Lucretia has a milk bath and questions the slave that was sent to please Spartacus. She responds saying that he would not have her and she is told that she is to be sent back to Spartacus that evening.

Varro then speaks with Asher of the communication with his lover and Spartacus ensures that he will cover the cost of further communication so that Varro is calm in battle. Crixus challenges Spartacus although is interrupted being summoned to please Lucretia.

Asher informs Solonius of Batiatus' intentions to kill him in exchange for some money, after persuading Solonius that the information was important.

Illthyia requests Crixus to lay with to Lucretia after being ensured that the act would not pass outside the walls of that location. Illthyia expresses her concerns that others would find out before eventually giving in to temptation. Batiatus arrives to find Lucretia destroying the place in rage after Illthyia's request to lay with Crixus, due to her own favouring of Crixus.

Asher informs Varro of his inability to seek out his wife saying that he could not find her or his son although there were traces of blood on the floor. Varro attacks Asher in anger and is restrained by guards. Spartacus issues Asher with positive words of encouragement to find his wife.

Crixus speaks with Doctore who ensures him that he will again fight in the arena and to wait patiently. Doctore says that he will again be champion and he looks towards a man of honour such as himself for that title.

Spartacus is again approached by the slave attempting to give him practice, he allows her to sleep on the floor so that she is not punished by Lucretia or Batiatus. She then claims that Spartacus made “many demands” of her when questioned by Lucretia.

Crixus challenges one of the new comers in the training area and wins in a wooden sword fight before Varro returns looking beaten by the guards. Spartacus tells Varro that he has dispatched someone to search for his wife and child, the same slave that tried to bed him previously. Crixus sees Naevia with a guard and becomes enraged thinking the worst.

Spartacus arrives before Lucretia ready to please Licinia and he appears enthusiastic. Simultaneously Crixus meets Naevia again questioning her about seeing her intimate with the guard and she responds by showing him the key which she obtained, for the cell he was in so they could be together for a brief period. While Spartacus is pleasing who he believes to be Licinia, Licinia and Lucretia appear only for it to be revealed that Lucretia had set Illthyia up with Spartacus knowing her hatred for him. There is a conflict and Spartacus is restrained. Quickly after Illthyia attacks Licinia for laughing at her killing Licinia. Illthyia then begins crying.

Lucretia justifies her actions saying that Lucretia schemes against her at every second, her and Batiatus then come up with a scheme to dispose of the body and keep Illthyia quiet. Illthyia is left in no position to speak out given her murder of Licinia in rage.

Batiatus speaks to Spartacus explaining that what happened wasn't of his doing and Spartacus apologises for attacking Illthyia. The episode then concludes with Lucretia comforting Illthyia saying that it'd be their little secret in a sinister tone...
