Harry Osborn is the wealthy son of Norman Osborn. While he was raised as a wealthy member of society, his father often neglected him due to his busy schedule. These years of neglecting caused the cheerful Harry to have a dark side to him. Although he wasn't too acquainted with Peter, they became friends when Norman offered to fund a dorm room for the two to share.
Harry dated Mary Jane for a long time, all the way up to an engagement, which never followed through to marriage due to Mary Jane's love for Peter. Their relationship began when Peter blew off Mary Jane for Felicia Hardy, so Mary Jane went on a date with Harry to get even with Peter. Their relationship lasted, but was put to an end by Mary Jane. Harry grew hatred over Peter for "stealing" Mary Jane from him.
When Harry Osborn is mentally contacted by the Green Goblin from the dimension by which he is trapped, the Green Goblin convinces Harry to become the Green Goblin and takeover the original Goblin's work in the city. In exchange, Harry will get to see his father again. Spider-Man tells Harry that his father was the Green Goblin, but this doesn't seem to bother Harry, who now knows Spider-Man's secret identity. After apprehended by Spider-Man, Harry is sent into a mental asylum. There, he receives the news by Mary Jane that she and Peter are getting married. This throws Harry over the edge, causing him to become the Green Goblin II again, and crashes the wedding, along with the Scorpion and robots created by Alistair Smythe. He is convinced to stop the destruction, and learns that Liz Allen may be in love with him, he agrees to go back to the asylum.
