Cletus Kasady used to be a lunatic bent on destroying New York, though he was captured by the police in one of his latest attacks. Regardless of his capture, everyone was doomed, as he had a bomb that was big enough to destroy the whole city. Spider-Man got there just in time, where he throws the bomb as high as he can into the sky, leaving everyone in New York safe. Cletus is sent to a mental asylum, where his cell is located directly next to Eddie Brock's cell. In a short while, Eddie is greeted by Baron Mordo, who has the Venom symbiote (which came back from space). Baron offers Eddie a chance to redeem himself by getting revenge upon Spider-Man with the symbiote. Cletus tries to convince them to give him the symbiote instead, though his efforts appear to be futile, as Eddie excepts the offer. Baron Mordo comes back for Cletus, and offers him the Venom symbiote's off-spring. Cletus accepts the offer, and deems himself Carnage. Having powers similar to Venom, but with the mind of a lunatic, Carnage poses a greater threat to Spider-Man, especially when Venom and Carnage join forces. Carnage also doesn't trigger Spider-Man's Spider-Sense, making him extremely dangerous. After being sucked into a portal, along with Venom and Dr. Kafka, Carnage reappears in an alternate universe, in which their are two Spider-Men, one of which is a crazed clone. Carnage bonds with the clone, making himself Spider-Carnage.
