Blade is one of the few half-human, half-vampires around. His mother was a vampire who fell in love with a human, and had Blade. Blade has all of the strengths and powers of a vampire, though he has none of the weaknesses, with the exception of the craving for blood. To fight this craving from taking over, he provides the hunger with an artificial substance, designed by his gadget man, Whistler, which he must take daily. Blade has devoted his entire life to hunting down and killing all vampires to wipe them from the human race. Aiding him is Whistler, who designs and builds all of his gadgets that Blade uses during combat.

While tracking down a vampire, it turns out to be Morbius, whom Spider-Man is currently trying to cure. Spider-Man feels partly responsible for Morbius’ transformation, so he asks Blade not to kill him. However, Blade ignores Spider-Man’s wishes, and continues on towards killing Morbius. In an attempt to revert himself back into a human, Morbius accidentally makes his transformation worse, and becomes nearly a bat, though Spider-Man changes him back to his second stage, in which he becomes a human during the day once more. Blade decides that he can use him in his quest, so he joins Blade, as does Black Cat, and they fight against vampires in a quest to destroy them all.
