Dr. Otto Octavius needs money to fund his scientific research, so he decides to kidnap Felicia Hardy, daughter of the extremely wealthy Anastasia Hardy, and demand a heavy ransom. Peter is present at the time of the kidnapping, though he is helpless to stop Octavius without revealing his secret identity to the both of them. Peter tries to convince the authorities that a man with four mechanical arms is behind the kidnapping, though they laugh off his theory. However, Jameson believes Peter’s story and goes on live television telling Octavius to contact them, though when he does, Jameson loses control of himself and insults Octavius, convincing Octavius to have Jameson deliver the ransom. Obviously, Jameson is taken hostage as well, leaving it up to Spider-Man to save the day.

| Peter: (about Felicia's extremely large property) So, when does this place apply for statehood? | Peter: Where's your mom?
Felicia: She's out buying a new yacht.
Peter: What happened? Your old one got wet? | F.B.I. Agent: Four metalic arms?
Peter: That's what I saw. I keep telling you --
F.B.I. Agent: Notice anything else? A couple extra heads, maybe? | J. Jonah Jameson: You six-armed squid!
Robbie: No, Jonah!
J. Jonah Jameson: You're a symbol of everything that's wrong with this country!
Peter: J. Jonah Jameson. The great communicator.
Doctor Octopus: You dare speak this way to a scientist?
J. Jonah Jameson: A scientist?! You're nothing but a coward! Kidnapping an innocent girl! | Peter: (while delivering the ransom) Usually, it's the spider that traps the fly; not the octopus that traps the spider. |

"Return of the Spider-Slayers (2)"
Peter: After that Spider-Slayer business, I didn't think she'd ever talk to me again.
This is a reference to the two previous episodes in which Norman Osborn hires Spencer Smythe to create a robotic spider to kill Spider-Man, in exchange for the funds to create a Hover-Chair for his son, Alistair Smythe, who is confined to a wheel chair. | When Spider-Man fought Doctor Octopus for the first time in the Amazing Spider-Man, issue 3, he is beaten, due to having a cold. Because of this, Spider-Man considers giving up his career, until Johnny, the Human Torch gives his school a speech about not giving up and trying again. Spider-Man tries again after he loses his cold, and succeeds in beating him. |
