The Chameleon, one of the most deadly assassins alive, is hired to assassinate two foreign diplomats who are scheduled to sign a peace treaty at a ceremony hosted by Jameson. The Chameleon isn’t by far an average hit-man, as he possesses a belt buckle which enables him to change into a direct carbon copy of anyone he chooses. Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. plan to stop see to it that the Chameleon isn’t successful, though Spider-Man decides to lend them a helping hand.

| The Cameleon has no voice because he shape-shifts into other people and uses their voice. | Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. make their first appearance. | Because of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, ABC Family decided to edit this episode, removing scenes with the Twin Towers, some of the New York skyline, and a helicopter crashing into a building, which resembled the 9/11 incident. | In this episode, the opening credits list John Semper as simply the writer, though in most episodes' credits, people are credited as both the story and teleplay (which means they wrote the episode). | The Chameleon is identified as having a brown belt with an oval belt buckle that's sea green with yellow trimming, which is needed to help him transform into others. | Nick Fury refers to the Daily Bugle as the Bugle, Daily. |

| Spider-Man: (to the Chameleon) Whoa, nice haircut. | The Cameleon: (as Nick Fury) My daddy always told me that it's the early bird that catches the Chameleon. | Spider-Man: (about the Cameleon throwing smoke-bombs) This guy's gonna ruin my lungs faster than tail-gating a Manhattan taxi! | Spider-Man: (after catching the Cameleon as Betty Brant) I don't usually pick up strange women. | Spider-Man: (after being hit by a smoke-bomb) Talk about the dangers of second-hand smoke! | J. Jonah Jameson: (about the Chameleon having transformed into Nick Fury and having the eye patch on the wrong eye) How could the Chameleon have made such a stupid mistake?
Spider-Man: That's easy, pickled-puss. He probably based his disguise on Fury's picture from the obituary in your files. The one that was pictured flipped, but he didn't know that. I guess it really does pay to practice shotty journalism. Keep it up, J.J. | Nick Fury: Heck of a job, Spider-Man! Thanks!
Spider-Man: Did he just say "thanks"? Someone thanking Spider-Man? That's a first. |
| |
| The Twin Towers / World Trade Center are seen in this episode, though they are portrayed as black towers with red outlining, which they certainly were not. |
| |
| Spider-Man: (to a humanoid bat-gargoyle) Aha, Bruce!
This may be a reference to Batman of DC Comics, whose secret identity was Bruce Wayne. |
| |
| The Chameleon makes his debut of the Spider-Man television series in this episode. The Chameleon made his first appearance in the Amazing Spider-Man, issue 1. |
