|Spooks, or MI-5, what is the title of this series? |
According to information retrieved from DVD research: When the people behind “Spooks” decided to release the series in the USofA (reruns), they felt that the name would not be well received in the USA. They indicated on the DVDs that they felt that the US viewer would see the title of the show, “Spooks”, and think that the series was a horror show instead of thinking that the show was a spy show (despite the term spooks being used in the USA as a term for spies). Instead of releasing the series in the US with the name “Spooks”, they decided to go with “MI-5.”
And no, MI-5 is not somehow "Mission Impossible 5" (There was the original Mission Impossible series that aired from 1966-1973 (MI-1), and a new Mission Impossible series that aired 1988-1990 (MI-2). Then there are the three Mission Impossible films starring Tom Cruise that have been released (MI-3-5)). BTW MI5, the real MI5, is MI5 not MI-5.
