Stardate 46392.7: Just after the U.S.S. Enterprise leaves Deep Space Nine, a Cardassian ship commanded by Gul Dukat, the former prefect of Bajor, arrives. In so many words, the Gul makes it known that he would like to see the orb that Sisko had been shown by Kai Opaka. Sisko balks for the moment, which gives him some time to meet with Lieutenant Dax and find out that the Denorios Belt, a plasma center in space, may lead to the answers they are looking for about the Tears of the Prophets.

| Log Entries:
* First Officer's Log, Stardate 46392.7 - We're preparing to launch a rescue mission to find Commander Sisko. But first, our navigational sensors must be recalibrated to work under the conditions reported by Lieutenant Dax.
* First Officer's Log, Supplemental - We've rendezvoused with the space station at the former coordinates of the wormhole. Unfortunately, our scans have revealed no trace of either the wormhole or Dukat's ship. A few minutes ago, three Cardassian warships crossed the border...no doubt on their way to search for Dukat.
* Station Log, Commander Benjamin Sisko, Stardate 46393.1 - The life-forms who created the wormhole have agreed to allow safe passage for all ships traveling to the Gamma Quadrant. With the arrival of the Enterprise, the Cardassians have left the area.

| Chief O' Brien tells Major Kira that there are six working thrusters on Deep Space Nine, but when the thrusters are powered up only four are shown.
| After Chief O'Brien is able to manually transfer the energy from the dampeners to the deflectors, the station is shown in an enclosed shield moving off at a faster rate. However, the blue light of the thrusters is absent. The thrusters were not added to the scene.

| Runabout: Rio Grande
The Runabout used by Commander Sisko and Lieutenant Dax is called the Rio Grande, named for the river which starts in southern Colorado near Pole Creek Mountain in the San Juan National Forest, flows east and southeast through Colorado then south through New Mexico to El Paso, Texas, where it becomes the border between Texas and Mexico, and empties into the Gulf of Mexico. The Runabouts make up the Danube-class of vessels. Like the prototype Danube, all Runabouts will be named after rivers (see next Cultural Reference).
| Runabout: Yangtze River
The second Runabout featured in "Emissary" is the Yangtzee Kiang. Named for the largest river in China, it is the third longest river in the world after the Nile and Amazon. Yangztee Kiang uses the Wade-Giles method for translating Chinese to English. In the established Pinyin translation system, the river is known as the Yangzi Jiang although it is more frequently called the Chang Jiang or Long River.
