* Stardate 46423.7 - Nearly sixty percent of DS9's population has now contracted the aphasia virus. We've initiated standard quarantine procedures and are advising all incoming ships to maintain their distance from the station until further notice.
* Stardate 46425.8 - With the help of Dr. Bashir's notes, Dr. Surmak was able to find an antidote for the aphasia virus. We are continuing to administer it throughout the station, and things are slowly returning to normal. | According to Odo, DS9 was built by the Cardassians 18 years ago. Also, he indicates that he has not been the Head of Security for all 18 years. However, in a later episode the year the station opened will be determined to be 2346, 23 years ago, instead of 2351. | The picture of Dekon Elig is actually Dan Curry, the series' visual effects producer and main title designer. |

| Background Information: Akira
In the background information given on the ops computer for Surmak Ren, it lists the Bajoran as "...a member of the Akira Advanced Genetics Research Unit..." The unit is named, by anime fan Rick Sternbach, for the 1988 Kazuhiro Ootomo film Akira, a movie about genetics research gone bad. |
