Stardate 46844.3: The Bajoran Provisional Government, in order to give the planet a new source of power, prepares to transfer energy from the core of their fifth moon, Jeraddo. All the inhabitants of the moon have been removed, but a later inspection of the moon by Major Kira and Lieutenant Dax reveals that not everyone was evacuated. Kira beams down and finds three holdouts who, despite the fact that all life on the moon's surface will die when the energy is transferred to Bajor, refuse to leave.

* Stardate 46844.3 - With the help of the Federation, Bajor is about to commence its first large-scale energy transfer: The tapping of the core of its fifth moon, Jeraddo. | Writer Peter Allen Fields is the person who came up with the monetary unit of gold pressed latinum, the first currency show in, at the time, the Star Trek Universe's first thirty years. | Also coined in this episode is the item known as the self-sealing stem bolts, another creation of Peter Allen Fields. According to the writer, the word just popped into his head while thinking of an item to barter for Cardassian yamok sauce. |

| Sisko: You have a job to do here, Major, and you're not doing it.
Kira: It's not that simple.
Sisko: I'm not saying it's simple. I'm saying it can't wait. Look, I understand you're used to sympathizing with the underdog. You've spent your life trying to overcome impossible odds just like he's doing. But you have to realize something, Major. You're on the other side now. (Kira turns to face Sisko) Pretty uncomfortable, isn't it?
Kira: (sighs) It's awful. |
