The Circle, with Minister Jaro Esso leading their charge, makes a push for control of Bajor. Starfleet has ordered all Federation personnel to vacate Deep Space Nine, but Commander Sisko makes the choice to defend the station. All Federation personnel are evacuated save for all of the Starfleet officers onboard, who stand with Sisko. With the evidence that Cardassians are supplying The Circle with weapons, Major Kira and Lieutenant Dax find transportation down to Bajor to convince the Provisional Government of Jaro's misdeeds.

Episode Notes

Quark quotes Doctor Bashir the thirty-first Rule of Acquisition: Never make fun of a Ferengi's mother.

Episode Quotes

Quark: Hundreds of people to evacuate and only three tiny Runabouts available. Do you know what that means?
Rom: It...it means...Well, a lot of people will be left behind. Tragic. Yes, brother. Your compassion never ceases to amaze me.
Quark: It means we're gonna make a fortune.
Rom: We are?
Quark: People will pay anything for a seat on those ships.
Rom: You...you can't make me. Well, I won't sell my seat.
Quark: Rom.
Rom: No! I won't stay and-and be killed just to fill your pockets.
Quark: Rom, do you actually believe that I would sacrifice my own brother's life (looks at a beautiful woman as she passes by) for personal profit?
(After a moment, Rom nods his head)
It would have to be the deal of a lifetime.
Rom: Yes, my lifetime.

Episode References

Runabout: Orinoco River
Replacing the Yangtzee Kiang, which had been lost in the season one episode "Battle Lines", the Orinoco is named after the Orinoco River, the second largest river in South America. The river starts in the Parima mountain range on the Venezuela-Brazil border and travels through Venezuela to Columbia before moving back into Venezuela and flowing into the Amacuro Delta and the Atlantic Ocean. More information on the Orinoco River can be found here.

Bajoran Raider
The original conceptual design for the Bajoran Raider used by Kira and Dax, which looks different from the final version seen in the episode, will be seen later in the season three opener "The Search".
