Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Improbable Cause (1)

After lunch with Doctor Bashir, Elim Garak returns to his clothing shop where his movement within detonates a bomb located behind one of the walls. When Chief O'Brien finds material from the bomb, a rare compound that is only used by Flaxian assassins, Odo questions the only Flaxian on board Deep Space Nine. Unable to learn anything from the Flaxian, and receiving no help from Garak, Odo allows the supposed assassin to leave the station with a hidden tracking device aboard his ship.

Episode Notes
This episode was produced before the previous episode, "Through the Looking Glass", but aired after it.

This episode marks the departure of Michael Piller as Executive Producer, who would move to his other creation Star Trek: Voyager full-time in the same capacity. Ira Steven Behr, who had started on the series as a Supervising Producer and later as Co-Executive Producer, would assume Piller's title on DS9 with the next episode, "The Die is Cast".

In Sisko's office during his talk with Odo, a Daedalus-class starship can be seen on a table.

Episode Quotes
Julian: (referring to The Boy Who Cried Wolf) But the point is, if you lie all the time, nobody's going to believe you...even when you're telling the truth.
Garak: Are you sure that's the point, Doctor?
Julian: Of course. What else could it be?
Garak: That you should never tell the same lie twice.

Episode References
"Improbable Cause": "Defiant"
This episode showcases the Obsidian Order's construction of new, more powerful vessels, which is a direct reference to "Defiant". In the latter episode, the Maquis member Thomas Riker learns that the Order is building stronger ships in secret and takes the Defiant to stop the building of the new vessels.
