After discovering that the Romulan Tal Shiar had killed the Flaxian assassin, Odo learns from an informant that the attempt on Garak's life was only a small piece of a larger puzzle. Garak and Odo journey to Cardassia to find Garak's old mentor from the Obsidian Order. Once in Cardassian space, they are met by a Romulan Warbird with Tain aboard. The Obsidian Order and the Tal Shiar have joined forces to take out the Dominion.

| "The Die is Cast": Julius Caesar
The episode title is a reference to a famous speech made by Julius Caesar, who, during the Roman Civil War, crossed the Rubicon River with his army to attack Rome. After crossing the river, he told his troops that, "The die is cast," meaning there is no turning back. The episode title echoes these words as the Romulans and Cardassian warships cross over to the Gamma Quadrant using the wormhole. |
