Stellar Cartography
The space station that the Defiant appears before, known as Deep Space K-7, is located in the Beta Quadrant, near the Klingon Border. K-7 can be found on pages 62 and 64 of the book Star Trek: Star Charts by Geoffrey Mandel just below the Briar Patch (seen in Star Trek: Insurrection). Also on page 64, the Gorn Hegemony, the Cestus Star System, and the Metreon Consortium can be found. Cestus III is the planet that the Metron placed Captain James T. Kirk and the the Gorn commander to do battle in "Arena" (see second Cutural Reference below). It is now the home of both Human and Gorn alike.

"Trials and Tribble-ations": "The Trouble with Tribbles"
The events of this episode take place during the Star Trek episode "The Trouble with Tribbles".

Kirk's Battle with the Gorn: "Arena"
Captain Sisko mentions that he would have loved to hear about Captain James T. Kirk's battle with the Gorn on Cestus III. The events of that battle took place in the Star Trek episode "Arena".

Klingon Lack of Ridges: "Affliction", "Divergence"
The reasons for the lack of ridges in the Klingons shown in the original Star Trek, while obviously budgetary at the time, will be explained in the Star Trek: Enterprise episodes "Affliction" and "Divergence".
