The Federation starship T'Kumbra, staffed with an all Vulcan crew, has docked at Deep Space Nine for repairs. Its Captain is Solok, who has an intense rivalry with the Captain of DS9. Since the holosuites on the T'Kumbra are down, Solok requests the use of the station's holosuites. In doing so, he puts forth the challenge to Sisko and his staff to best his Vulcan athletes in an old Terran form of competition: Baseball.

Benjamin: How are my casualties doing?
Nerys: We'll live.
Ezri: If you believe Julian. Personally, I'm not sure I'm going to make it. | Julian: What are you eating?
Miles: I'm not eating. I'm chewing.
Julian: Chewing what?
Miles: Gum. It's traditional. I had the replicator create me some.
Miles: They just chewed it?
Julian: No, they infused the gum with flavor.
Miles: What flavor did you infuse it with?
Julian: Scotch. | Benjamin: All right, Niners. Let's hear some chatter!
Kasidy: Hey, batter, batter, batter, batter, batter, batter!
Leeta: Hey, batter, batter, batter, batter, batter, batter, batter!
Worf: Death to the opposition. | Benjamin: (to Odo) You can't tell me that ball was over the plate. What were you doing, regenerating? | Benjamin: You stole a run from us! You stole it just as if you reached up and tore it off the scoreboard! (touches Odo's chest with his forefinger) You stole it from us.
Odo: You...You're outta here!
Benjamin: What?!
Odo: "No player shall at any time make contact with the umpire in any manner." The prescribed penalty for the violation is immediate ejection from the game. Rule number 4.06, subsection "A", paragraph four. Look it up, but do it in the stands. You're gone! | (Sisko walks past his players after being thrown out of the game)
Julian: Chief?
Miles: What?
Julian: I think that means you're in charge now.
Miles: You're right. (Looks at his teammates) Well, what are you standing around "fer"? You never seen a man thrown out of a game?! |

As she walks to the dugout at the midpoint of the first inning, the back of Kira's uniform has her family name on it. For the rest of the game, her uniform will have Nerys written on it. | It is perhaps due to the shape of his head and his thick hair, but Worf does not wear a batter's helmet while batting. He is shown wearing his regular field cap. | During the game, Major Kira continues to wear her Bajoran earring. |

Baseball Caps: Major League Baseball
During practice, Captain Sisko wears a San Francisco Giants baseball cap, and his son wears an Atlanta Braves cap. Coincidentally, these are two of the oldest teams in Major League Baseball. The San Francisco Giants originally started in New York City in 1883 as the New York Gothams. Two years later, they would change the name to the Giants, and, in 1958 (the same year that the Brooklyn Dodgers relocated to Los Angeles), moved to San Francisco. The Atlanta Braves, despite the incredible amount of name (and two city) changes to the team, are the one of the first two original teams of MLB. Started in 1871, the same year as the Chicago White Stockings, later the Cubs, the Atlanta Braves first played in Boston under the nickname Red Stockings. The name would change in 1876 (Red Caps), 1883 (Beaneaters), 1907 (Doves), 1912 (Braves), and 1936 (Bees), before returing in 1941 to their current moniker. They would then move to Milwaukee in 1953 before moving to Atlanta for the 1966 season. |
