While Quark prays to the Grand Exchequer to allow him prosperous business and to see his dream of being with Ezri come to fruition, he receives a visit from a very different Ezri. Unfortunately for Quark, this isn't Ezri Dax, and she isn't here on a social call. The Grand Nagus, who has been missing for some time, greets Quark from a message tube, and goes on to say that he tried to open negotiations for trade with the Mirror Universe's Alliance. However, the venture is in jeopardy unless Quark is able to smuggle a cloaking device into the Mirror Universe. Should he fail, the Nagus will be meeting the Grand Exchequer in person.

Episode Quotes

Rom: It looks like Deep Space 9 to me.
Quark: I suppose a cargo bay...is a cargo bay no matter what universe you're in.

Quark: I still don't understand why you came here in the first place.
Zek: Simple, really. I came to find new financial opportunities for the Ferengi people.
Rom: In the alternate universe?!
Zek: Well...it seemed like a good idea...at the time.

Mirror Ezri: You shouldn't have killed Brunt.
Mirror Kira: Isn't it a little late to be developing a conscience?
Mirror Ezri: I hope not.

Zek: This is quite a fascinating place, don't you agree?
Rom: I...want to go home.

Episode Goofs

The Alliance Needs a What?
While the premise is plausible, the situation that it is presented breaks continuity; a cloaking device has already been used by the Alliance in the Mirror Universe. In the season three episode "Through the Looking Glass", Captain Sisko and the Mirror O'Brien are caught by the Alliance when the Cardassian and Klingon ships decloak in front of them.

Cultural References

"The Emperor's New Cloak": Mirror Universe
This episode marks the final time that the crew of Deep Space Nine venture into the Mirror Universe. Beginning in the Star Trek episode "Mirror, Mirror", the Mirror Universe arc in DS9 spanned five episodes. Starting with the season two episode "Crossover", the Mirror Universe was also seen in the season three episode "Through the Looking Glass", the season four episode "Shattered Mirror", and the season six episode "Resurrection". However, the Mirror Universe will actually start earlier chronologically than "Mirror, Mirror". Star Trek: Enterprise, a prequel series to Star Trek, will begin to cover the Mirror Universe during its run that lasted from 2001 to 2004.
