Returning from a conference, Chief O'Brien and Constable Odo are paid a visit by a Changeling. However, the Changeling calls himself a Metamorph. He, like Odo, was one of the one hundred shape-shifters sent out by the Founders at an early age in order to experience other species' ways of life. The Metamorph has been trying to return home ever since. Luckily, Odo is the first shape-shifter that the Changeling encountered.

| The initial title given to this episode was "Untitled Odo". | The artist who plays Laas is the same one who plays the Klingon General Martok. J.G. Hertzler used his middle name in order not to let on to the audience that he played Laas. |

| Odo: Look at me, Nerys. What do you see?
Nerys: I see you.
Odo: No. No, this is just...a form...I borrowed. I could just as easily be someone or something else.
Nerys: I know that. But...this...is what you have always chosen to be. A man...a good and honest man. A man I fell in love with. Are you trying to tell me he never existed?
Odo: I don't know. I care for you more than anyone I've ever known. These last few months have been the happiest of my life. But even so...a part of me wishes Laas and I were out there right now searching for the others. Existing as Changelings. Because that's what I am. Not a humanoid. I'm a Changeling.
Nerys: Well, then maybe you're right. Maybe you do belong out there. |
