Star Trek Jargon/Acronyms:
Throughout the series, there are many instances where jargon and acronyms are used that are relevant within Starfleet. However, the casual viewer may not be aware of their meaning. This area of the guide will provide the meaning behind the various Starfleet terms mentioned within each episode when no explanation is given.

ODN - Stands for Optical Data Network. Chief O'Brien mentions to Commander Sisko that he cannot find any ODN access lines. ODNs can be found wherever Federation computers are present in the late 24th Century. They are the main links between all of the computers on a Federation/Starfleet station or ship and connect all electronic databases together so that information flows as fast as possible. In terms of data processing, they are the arteries and veins of any computer system.

Graviton Flux - Lieutenant Dax notices that graviton flux is present when Deep Space Nine's systems are first drained, which is the same thing that happened to the Runabout Ganges. The term specifies an increase in graviton particles meant to cause a strong gravitational pull. A tractor beam works on the same principle, but at a reduced, and more controlled, rate. In this instance, graviton flux is indicative of energy being pulled to one point, in this case to the growing entity in the box that Vash had taken from the Gamma Quadrant.

"The Maquis, Part I"
SID - Stands for Seismic Intrusion Device.
