Stardate 4129.5: Counselor Deanna Troi’s mother, Lwaxana, drops by for a surprise visit. Lwaxana has come to inform Deanna that the arranged marriage her father had set up for her while she was still a child, is about to occur. Although Deanna has known about the arrangement, she had just assumed the arrangement had been called off due to her career in Starfleet. Even though she has never met the groom, Deanna believes she has being seeing visions of him, so she agrees to acquiesce to this Betazoid tradition.
However, the wedding plans are thrown into chaos when a major plaque ship approaches and threatens a world. The Enterprise responds to the planet’s distress call, but soon both the Enterprise and Deanna find that not all is as it appears to be with the plague and her groom.
*Captain's Log, Stardate 41294.5. Our destination: the class M Beta Cassius planet known simply as Haven. It is a world so renowned for its peaceful beauty that some believe it to have mystical healing powers. We will rest and relax...all too briefly, I fear.
*Captain's Personal Log: I trust my concern over the problems of ship's Counselor Troi are not based merely on losing a highly valuable crew member. But it seems to me that she is trapped by a custom of her homeworld which the facts of 24th century life have made unwise and unworkable. I wish I could intervene.
*Captain's Log, supplemental. It has been believed the Tarellian race was extinct an assumption contradicted by the sight of one of their vessels approaching Haven.
*Captain's Log, supplemental. All attempts at warning off the Tarellian ship have failed. They still refuse to communicate and I'm growing concerned.
*Captain's Log, Stardate 41294.6. Orbiting Haven with a Tarellian vessel locked in our tractor beam. Question: what strange combination of circumstances has caused a woman out of someone's imagination to appear on the plague ship?
Michael Dorn (Worf) does not appear in this episode.
