Borg Assimilation of Earth
After Seven of Nine regenerates in the Borg ship, the Queen tells her that she is needed because, "We failed in our first attempt to assimilate Earth and we won't succeed the next time unless we understand the nature of their resistance." At this point in the Star Trek Universe, the Borg had tried and failed to assimilate Earth twice, once in the Star Trek: The Next Generation "The Best of Both Worlds" story arc and once in Star Trek: First Contact.
