As I see it, ST:V has a love / hate thing going on with the Trek community. I actually fell into both categories. I refused to watch the show as it originally aired, but the fell in love with it as it aired in syndication.
I just hate shows with limitations. I never watched B5 because it was about a fixed orbit spacecraft. I only began to like ST S9 after the war increased its limited view point (fixed spacecraft again). BTW – I am a much bigger fan of ST:V than I am of ST S9.
I hope to make this a great site for those that loved the series, but also be tolerant to the other faction. Everyone will be welcome to opine here (and just be welcome here).

I don't hate Voyager, but the problem is the story line is either boring or has been used before in the first couple of season. However the show did get better when Seven came and introducing the Borg back in. |

I have to agree, I don’t think the series could have continued without her addition. And I’m not just talking about her stunning figure! The Borg aspect to the second half of the series was great. The humor helped too.
I was reflecting back on the ST:V forum on tvt. There seemed to be strong feelings on both sides. |

Yeah, she reminded me a lot about Data and brought more interesting stories with her too. And the Borg always kick ass when they show up so you know they won't disappoint you (TNG, First Contact, and even Enterprise). |

I’ve been fighting on how to respond to your “retread episodes” thought. Yes, I’m forced to agree. However, to my disappointment, most of the good episodes of any drama and sci-fi series are retreads of… let’s see, Shakespeare, the Bible, and other major literary stories.
Think about it, most of the writers for the series wrote for all the other series. The probably stole from their own work too.
Oh yeah, my most favorite dragged out thread on the series was the whole Torres – Paris thing. |

What was your opinion of Kes? I never really liked her character, although I'm not sure why. I wanted to like her, but ... I dont' know.... Maybe she just seemed too much like the stereotypical female that needs to be rescued. Or maybe it was her special abilities and the hints of what she could become that also seemed to be another stereotype in science fiction and fantasy. I liked her better when she came back and nearly destroyed the ship. |

I don't have a problem in having retread story lines such as being stuck in the holodeck, time travel, alien taking over the ship etc. only if they are done correctly. I don't remember Voyager episodes much, so I'll take ENT as an example. Season 1, 2 and 4 of ENT have the same retread plot of conflicts with other species and other stuff, but season 4 was more creative and it stands out. The Kazons and Seska never interested me (I wanted Janeway to slap Seska and let that be the end of it), but the quality improve after they got rid of them. Seven and the Borg brought in excitement, and
Equinox, Year of heck, Fair Haven, and many I can't remember are all good epsodes. |

I was never a fan of her character too.I don't know if it's Jennifer who wanted to leave the show or the writers just wanted to write her off. But Jerri Ryan made me forget her quickly. There are times when I don't even remember Kes being part of the crew anymore.

I think replacing the character Kes was about as important as bringing on Seven. I agree, she just didn’t fit any mold. But it’s hard to put a finger on why. Yes, her return was pretty good.
I read that the PTB wrote that they felt they had exhausted all the possible plot lines to her character. I think that usually means they wouldn’t give her the raise she demanded, or some other conflict like that. |

I dunno I thought Voyager was pretty good but with all shows it has its crap episodes and maybe more than it should have. Steve and I decided that I would take over the guide here but I hope you will still continue to post on the forum here. |

I am a BIG fan of this series, and I hated to give it up, but I did what was best for the Guide and the site, and Ross was doing the work here.
Ross did get my blessing on this. I was overwhelmed by trying to complete a seven year, near empty guide here. I didn’t want to lose my other guides, because I would have had to work so hard on Voyager.
I also promised to help out here, once I got my other guides up to speed. Ross and I go WAY back, and trust each other. I knew my submissions would receive favorable consideration him (ah, he wouldn’t need to overly check them out).
All is good!
I’m not quite there yet on my other guides, but I hope this post tells everyone it’s getting better. |
