Episode Quotes |
| |
Ford: Is time travel even possible?
McKay: Well, according to Einstein’s general theory of relativity there’s nothing in the laws of physics to prevent it. It’s extremely difficult to achieve, mind you. You need the technology to manipulate black holes to create wormholes not only through points in space, but time.
Sheppard: Not to mention a really nice DeLorean…
McKay: (disdainfully) Don’t even get me started on that movie.
Sheppard: I like that movie! |

De Lorean Time Travel
Sheppard and McKay are referring to the film Back to the Future (1985) and its sequels. Eccentric genius Doc Emmett Brown built the flux capacitor, a mechanism that facilitated time travel under certain conditions. He incorporated it into a De Lorean DMC-12 automobile. The DMC-12, with its stainless steal body and gull wing doors, was an icon of the 1980’s, a decade some equate with conspicuous consumption. John De Lorean left General Motors in part to form a company to build this car and sent Back to the Future scriptwriter Bob Gale a letter thanking him for immortalizing the DMC-12. Sadly, DMC could not sell enough automobiles to remain solvent. |
