Midway - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Kayla comes back to Atlantis from Earth where she’s been meeting with the new IOA representative, Mr. Coolidge. She reports to Carter and Sheppard that Coolidge was less then impressed with her, viewed her with distrust as an alien, and kept calling her “Honey.” She eventually convinced him that she’d be going back on duty once her pregnancy was done (much to Sheppard’s surprise), but now Ronon is the next one to be interviewed. Realizing that Ronon isn’t the most diplomatic person on the base, Carter has called in someone to help coach him: Teal’c.

Teal’c arrives at Atlantis with a new hairstyle and chats with Carter. They visit Ronon and Sheppard, who are sparring, but Ronon isn’t too impressed with anyone trying to coach him.

A Wraith leader and his men arrive at a barren planet and start attaching equipment to its Stargate.

Teal’c takes the initiative and joins Ronon for lunch. Ronon claims he can handle things diplomatically with the IOA, until Teal’c taunts him with how his cowardice caused his people to be wiped out by the Wraith. When Ronon draws a gun, Teal’c points out that the IOA will make the same points. Sheppard gets Ronon to back down and suggests that they spar together. The two go at it as Sheppard starts collecting wagers from the gathering crowd. Carter finally breaks it up… then has to break it up again when they switch to hand-to-hand.

Finally Teal’c and Ronon depart for Midway Station where they will undergo quarantine for a day before going on to Earth to meet with the IOA. Dr. Lee is there, briefing his replacement Kavanagh. He’s forced to put them in the same quarters, which they’re not thrilled with.

The Wraith decipher the program coding in the Stargate chain that leads from Atlantis to Midway. They launch an assault through the Gate, wiping out the small security force. Lee spots them and sends out the alarm, and Ronon and Teal’c head through Midway to take on the Wraith. Meanwhile, the Wraith Leader captures Lee and Kavanagh and orders them to open the gate chain leading to Earth.

McKay and Carter confirm that Midway has been cut off but believe it’s a technical glitch. Since it happened when Teal’c and Ronon departed, they figure the two of them are stranded on the last gate before Midway, at the edge of the Pegasus Galaxy.

On Midway, Teal’c and Ronon start arguing about what to do next, whether to go for the control room or the Gate Room. When the Wraith discover they can’t override the lockout code that activated automatically when Lee signaled the alarm, they prepare to interrogate him.

The Atlantis team tries to establish contact with Midway only to discover there’s an outgoing wormhole, preventing them from making contact. They send a MALP through their gate to the last planet before Midway and spot Wraith equipment before the remote is destroyed by a Wraith soldier.

The Wraith Leader starts to interrogate Kavanagh but the scientist faints. He turns to Lee but fortunately the Wraith scientist breaks the lockout code. Teal’c and Ronon are still arguing and spot the Wraith soldiers heading for the Gate Room. The Wraith, meanwhile, establish a wormhole to SGC on Earth and send through a device that knocks out everyone in the base.

McKay reestablishes the chain of Stargates leading to Midway by diverting to a different planet and Sheppard takes his team through along with McKay. Meanwhile, Ronon and Teal’c manage to get through the Midway Gate just as the Wraith shut it down. Atlantis establishes their wormhole to Midway and Sheppard and his men come through to search the base and determine what happened.

On Earth, Ronon and Teal’c find the unconscious SGC staff and go hunting for the Wraith soldiers. Sheppard and his men discover the Wraith and try to get to the control room, but the Wraith Leader seals it off. He talks to them over the intercom and identifies himself as an ally of the Wraith that worked with McKay to override the Replicator programming. Through him the Wraith Leader got the info he needed to break the code on Atlantis’ gate transmissions to establish the chain to Midway. More Wraith arrive at Midway and Sheppard goes to the control room. He finds Lee and Kavanagh, still alive, and realizes the Wraith Leader has escaped after putting a lockout of his own on the Gate controls. McKay goes to work on them while his men deal with more arriving Wraith. Kavanagh decides to simply shut down the system, unaware that it activates Midway’s self-destruct. They now have ten minutes to stop it or escape, while the Wraith try to shoot through the door.

Teal’c and Ronon find Mr. Coolidge of the IOA, and he insists they call for reinforcements. The two men refuse, since it would breech the lockdown and give the Wraith the chance to escape. They go to hunt down the Wraith on their own.

Sheppard orders McKay to get Lee and Kavanagh to a Puddle Jumper to evacuate, and vent all the air in the station as a distraction to get past the Wraith. Sheppard is forced to head there on his own but as the oxygen levels decrease, he ends up fighting a Wraith. He defeats it but his air is running out. McKay finally repressurizes the station and he and the others head for the Puddle Jumper.

At SGC, Coolidge contacts the government and orders the detonation of the base’s nuclear device. He orders everyone to escape through the surface escape hatch but Teal’c is still in the base and Ronon refuses to abandon him.

McKay and the scientists get to the Puddle Jumper and find Sheppard, who has taken refuge in a pressure suit.

Ronon finds Teal’c fighting the Wraith and the two of them end up fighting hand-to-hand. One of them starts to drain Teal’c’s life force and Ronon stabs it through the back and out the chest with a metal spar, killing it just in time. They contact Coolidge and tell him to shut down the nuke.

On Midway, Sheppard and the others escape in the Puddle Jumper just as the station blows up.

Later, Ronon meets with the IOA, who demand that he accept their authority over them. He shrugs and says “Yes,” and Coolidge accepts that as good enough. Teal’c is pleased that Ronon didn’t have to kill anyone. They leave in the <i>Daedalus</i> to head for Midway’s location.

On the Puddle Jumper, Lee and Kavanagh have been arguing constantly, much to McKay’s irritation. The <i>Daedalus</i> picks them up and a grateful McKay gets out. Ronon goes to wake up Sheppard, who has sealed himself in the pilot’s cabin rather then listen to the bickering. Sheppard claims he figured Ronon would get IOA approval all the time.
