Colonel/Brigadier General Jonathan J. "Jack" O'Nei [Seasons 1-8], played by Richard Dean Anderson
Jack O' Neill was one member of the team who went through the Stargate to Abydos and overthrew the god-like Ra. His son, Tyler, had died from an accidental gunshot to the head and Jack had blamed himself since. He fell into a depression and his wife left him. A year after his son is when he first went through the Stargate with the intention of detonating an atomic bomb to destroy the formidable force that awaited them on the other side of the known Universe. Jack was suicidal, but Daniel Jackson, a scientist, help give him a purpose in life and Jack returned to Earth after killing Ra and freeing the people of Abydos. A year later and Jack returns to Abydos to defeat a new enemy, Apophis. After one year Jack is fairly sarcastic and cynical, but still blames himself for his sons death and uses sarcasm as a defense mechanism. Jack is a very competent leader and is intelligent, but he is modest about his capabilities. |
