Teal'c, played by Christopher Judge
Teal'c was a Jaffa; basically a Goa'uld soldier, and a very good one too. Teal'c swore to avenge his father after he was murdered by Cronus - a Goa'uld - for losing a virtually unwinable battle. This is why Teal'c became a Jaffa for Apophis, the serpent God, enemy of Ra... and Cronus. Over the years he became disillusioned with Apophis, losing his faith and considering Apophis to be a false God. He learnt, not only battle skills, but wisdom from his master Bra'tac. When Teal'c came across two humans - from Earth - who were imprisoned on his home planet, he knew that it was true. These were the humans who toppled the mighty Amun-Ra one year ago and freed the people of Abydos. Faced with killing the team and being a slave to Apophis, or turning in his comrades and choosing freedom... Teal'c chose freedom. Escaping with the humans back to Earth, Teal'c stood up higher than the man who he once thought was a God. Although times have been tough over the years for Teal'c, he has managed keep his freedom and help his fellow Jaffa get theirs. He has proven to be an invaluable asset to SG-1 and has proven his loyalty and comradeship, risking his life in the line of duty for others. It seems as though Teal'c will never rest until one day... all Jaffa are free. |
