Stargate SG-1: The Torment of Tantalus

When Daniel looks at some old tapes of Stargate research made in 1945, he discovers that someone actually went through the Stargate back then. When he learns that that person apparently didn't return, SG-1goes on a mission to try and find out what happened to him.

This episode confirms Daniel's belief that the Goa'uld did not build the Stargate.

Paul McGillion (Young Ernest Littlefield) would later play Dr. Carson Beckett in Stargate Atlantis.

Episode Goofs
Ernest says that when he left Earth there were 90 elements, in fact in 1945 there were 96 elements known.

Cultural References
The title refers to Greek King Tantalus, who was sent to Hades and placed for eternity in a lake of water which receded whenever he tried to drink.
