Episode Notes |
| |
This is the first appearance of the Sodan, a legendary race of warriors, who first served the Goa'uld Ishkur, but then rebelled from him when they discovered he was not a god 5000 years ago, and found a colony of the Ancients, and settled there while looking for Kheb. | The Sodan utilize a lot of Ancient techology:
1. The cloaking device worn on their arms.
2. Mini-staff weapons, which were probably modified regular staff weapons, using Ancient knowledge.
3. The "Eye of the Gods" transporter which allows them to live several hundred miles away from the gate. | The Sodan village lies several months away, on foot, from the planet's gate, and is between the Mountains of Dor'Tonok. We are told that no one has ever made the journey and lived. | This is the first appearance of X-Files star William B. Davis as the Prior Demaris (the character name stated in "The Fourth Hoseman, pt. 2") |

Episode Quotes |
| |
Mitchell: Look, I’ll do any crazy exercise you want... within reason. | Jolan: You may provide a challenge to your opponent after all, Mitchell.
Mitchell: Followed by my violent death, of course.
Jolan: Of course. | Mitchell: All I know is the moment you accept your fate, you’re dead. Until then, all bets are off. | Volnek: (referring to Daniel and Teal'c) You two, again?
Daniel: Yes, us two, again. | Tass’an: Heed my words, brother. If a Prior visits your world… leave. | Jolan: May you die well.
Mitchell: Likewise. | Walter: We’re receiving an IDC, sir. It's Colonel Mitchell.
Daniel: You’re kidding!
Walter: I would never do that, sir. | Volnek: You would never have survived Kel Shak Lo alone
Mitchell: Don’t know. Took you down pretty good.
Volnek: You were lucky.
Mitchell: Lucky is good. | Mitchell: (to Jolan) You know, a bag of sand with a hole in it is not an accurate timing device. | Mitchell: (to Jolan) Well done, Bones. |

Mitchell: Well done, Bones
Mitchell refers to Doctor Leonard "Bones" McCoy, a character from Star Trek. In the second season episode "Amok Time" Captain Kirk found himself battling a crazed Spock. McCoy realized that for a number of reasons this was a fight Kirk could not win, and so he slipped his captain a neural paralyzer, knocking him out and simulating death. This enabled the fight to end with Spock's apparent victory, essentially curing him of the condition that had rendered him temporarily insane. |
