When Teal’c leads the team to find a secretive Jaffe sect known as the Sodan warriors, they are attacked and get split up. Mitchell is attacked by one of the Sodan warriors, but is able to mortally wound him, however, being hurt, then loses consciousness.
He is then taken by the Sodan to be revived and fight in a battle to the death against another Sodan warrior, to revenge the death of one of their brethren.

This is the first appearance of the Sodan, a legendary race of warriors, who first served the Goa'uld Ishkur, but then rebelled from him when they discovered he was not a god 5000 years ago, and found a colony of the Ancients, and settled there while looking for Kheb.
| The Sodan utilize a lot of Ancient techology:
1. The cloaking device worn on their arms.
2. Mini-staff weapons, which were probably modified regular staff weapons, using Ancient knowledge.
3. The "Eye of the Gods" transporter which allows them to live several hundred miles away from the gate.
| The Sodan village lies several months away, on foot, from the planet's gate, and is between the Mountains of Dor'Tonok. We are told that no one has ever made the journey and lived.
| This is the first appearance of X-Files star William B. Davis as the Prior Demaris (the character name stated in "The Fourth Hoseman, pt. 2")

Mitchell: Well done, Bones
Mitchell refers to Doctor Leonard "Bones" McCoy, a character from Star Trek. In the second season episode "Amok Time" Captain Kirk found himself battling a crazed Spock. McCoy realized that for a number of reasons this was a fight Kirk could not win, and so he slipped his captain a neural paralyzer, knocking him out and simulating death. This enabled the fight to end with Spock's apparent victory, essentially curing him of the condition that had rendered him temporarily insane.
