Ok, before anyone decides to argue with me over this, let it be known that I was just about the biggest Jack fan there ever was prior to season 8 that was then I started to not like him that much.
Anyway, what the heck is up with him in the few eps he's been in this and last year?
Here is my analysis of his appearances in the few eps he has been in recently:
Avalon: Just about a 10 second flashback sequence, why bother then?
Origin: That 50 second sequence in Daniel's lab and the scene of him and Mitchell in the 302, notice that they never showed Jack in the same shot as Daniel or anyone else? That's because he filmed his shots down in LA and he was just digitally "pasted" in the scenes, what is up with this guy? He can't even come to Vancouver to do anything? If he never left LA, why not film more of him then?
We don't even see him in the season, finale, not that I cared, Mitchell is 100 times better than Jack in my opinion, plus Mitchell is not a pompus joker like Jack was.
He suddenly turns up in 200.
200: Man, was that even worth it? He just shows up for 5 mins near the end of the ep, what is it with him? He barely did 10 mins per ep back in season 8! And did anyone else pick up a strange vibe from the I wouldn't mind one last jaunte through the old orrifice
Know what I'm going at? Plus, I think him being away from SG-1 has made him soft.
The Return, pt. 1: Yeah, I know it's an Altantis ep but it happened mainly in the SGC. What's up with his hair during his scene in the control room with Gen. Landry? Is he going for the Gen Landry hair look in that scene or what?
I'm telling you, Jack is not the man he once was. It's gotten to the point where I don't even like him to show up anymore.
Anyone else agree?

Also let’s start by saying I was there at TV Tome during the discussions of the adding of Ben Browder to SG-1. You were, at the time, extremely upset by RDA leaving and BB coming in. I am totally jazzed that you are now on board with BB, but I can’t understand how you now feel about RDA. I too felt betrayed by his leaving the series, but I’ve been happy to see him make the few reappearances he has made (ditto for Don S. Davis [Gen. Hammond]).
BTW – YouTube.com has the great 6 minute puppet segment (with RDA and DSD) from ep 200.
In my opinion, NBC continues on its path to destroy the SCI-FI channel, as it has already done to its own NBC name. |

I don't know, I used to think Jack was so cool but when he left the show then made his reappearanced I started to hate him. I can't say exactly what I think about him on the board though but another issue is he thinks he's god, he thinks by coming in every 10 or so eps for 5 mins people will go nuts and praise him for taking the time for appearing. His departure is unexuseable, AT (Amanda Tapping) has a kid and that's not stopping her from working, the same with MS so why the heck does he say that's his reason? heck, they all have kids and that doesn't stop them, CJ has 3 and he has time for everything!
Also, the reason I was ready to hate Mitcheck was because I thought he'd ruin the show but he's basically the serious Jack which I kind of prefer.
I was also against CB joining the show but she turned out to be ok, and although I've never been the guy for the type of sex sells sentiment, it's nice to see another woman in the main cast.
Also, Jack was a slacker, here are my examples:
1. He always wore that baseball cap which is ABSOLUTELY not allowed in the military, Mitcheck as does the rest of the SG personell wears the correct patrol cap.
2. When he was a general, he wore BDU's with General stars on them, this is not allowed, Generals, at least not generals that are doing a desk job MUST wear a dress uniform, this is a rule, he broke it by wearing BDU's just because he prefers them, it doesn't matter what you prefer, rules are rules but because he's a big shot exec of the show, he gets to bend them.
3. I can't say here but if anyone else knows what I mean, then you've figured it out. Ok, I'll give a hint, ever find it strange that Daniel always get the girls on the show and Jack doesn't? That strikes me as odd, also, on Atlantis, Sheppard is getting the girls, not McKay so anybody figure it out yet?
4. He thinks that by coming every 10 eps or so, we should praise him for it even though it's only for about 5 minutes.
5. The guy doesn't come to the fan conventions (all the other stars go) which makes me believe he doesn't care for the fans. Will Shatner hates the fans as he is very unkind and he didn't start coming to the conventions until the mid 90's when he needed money so I am sure that the same reason is why RDA doesn't go.

I don’t need to give Faris’ bona fides on military matters, but I will anyway. He really does know his stuff. I take his critic as being factually correct, as I know from experience (our many past conversations about Military dress code reg’s) he really knows about Military dress codes, as it is his hobby and his passion. I’m just glad he is sharing his info here, with us.
I may give him a hard time sometimes here; but it’s just because were old friends. |

I think that because he had played in McGyver, he is remembered with that specific character, and he doesnt care about Stargate.
While Amanda, and Judge and Michael dont have a show that have made them famous thoughout the world (excluding the greatest show of course, SG-1).
And McKay did sort of get one woman on Atlantis
The scientist on the planet with the brotherhood. And it wont be right to get women, because first he is supposed to be the ultimate geek and second they got that thing with Carter. |

I don't think so, why bother being on it in the first place as the leading man if you don't even like the show?
Notice his demeanor changed as the show went on.
Season 1 quote:
"Maybe their idea of s simple trial is a simple beheading!"
Season 8 quote:
"It just wont' be the same without the red white a blue bunting"
Come on! How do you go from being Mr. Tactical to Mr. Prissypants like that???
He really changed and that's one of the reasons I don't care for Jack anymore.
Exactly, Daniel, at least he USED to be the geek of SG-1 yet he always got the girls and Jack never did, why do you think this would be? I personally think that RDA declined being the babe magnent for a reason...
Also, with regards to McKay, he also was hitting it off with Norena from "Inferno" but those are women with common interest so that doesn't really count.

Please tone it down a bit. I came close to deleting your post, but didn’t, as your voice should be heard. However, by that same token, everyone’s voice should be heard too. Faris has his opinions, and he is an expert (maybe THE expert) on SG-1. He is just voicing an opinion that should be discussed by all here. Let’s just discuss stuff in a friendly way |

Ditto for toning it down a bit. And about Jack-- in my opinion season 9 and 10 totally blows when compared to seasons 1-8. Don't get me wrong, I really don't have anything about Ben Browder, he's a great leader of SG-1 but it's not the same show since RDA left. Also, Claudia Black > Amanda Tapping in every aspect. Sam had her moments but imo it's all over. To be frank I don't really like Carter character anymore at least for the last season. Daniel's same as ever-- geeky but awesome. As for Jack's attitude...well, he was always sloppy =] |

He just felt that he was getting too old to be running around on planets saving the galaxy. I can understand that. I just wish that he could have had the role of the General or something(nothing against Beau Bridges and his great job). It just didn't feel like a finale without Richard Dean Anderson. |

I highly doubt that. The work schedule of a principal actor on a show like this is murder. All they do is work, work, work, sleep, work, work, work. If they are shooting in Vancouver and their families live in LA, they barely get to see them on the weekends.
Most actors simply put their family second, career first. Not judging, just saying.
I would rather have had RDA on SG-1 full-time, beginning to end, but it's his life, his decision. He did not need to ask for permission from us or anyone else.

Follow-up, from a recent interview with Chris Judge: "I'm on my fourth child now, but this is the first child I've actually ever -- I potty trained her, watched her learn to put sentences together. I actually spent time with one of my children!"
"It's great. My three older ones, for almost eleven years, I would leave to go to work before they woke up and I'd come home after they were in bed. So it's actually been really great."
As I was saying...
