Episode discussion for: 02x20 | Gauntlet (May 09, 2011)

It's over..... .... or is it ?!

If I can win the lottery in the next three years I can bring them back after their awakening. Or, maybe, say in 2 years time people are clammering for some SG stuff and that persuades the ptb over at Syfy to resurrect the show, that'd be awesomeness in abundance. - possibly having ep1 with just (goes to check his name) Eli telling us what he did in those 2 weeks, how he survived, or didn't.
- maybe he didn't but found the cure to Drs sickess thing

btw: the last few eps were crammed full of the writers commenting about their early cancellation, right.

Anyway, I really though the captain was going to bonk Eli on the head and take his "sacrificial" place, but no.

Anyway, anyway, am pleased with the ending, sad to see it go, but have fingers crossed that we ain't seen the last of it. In a year or so's time, howzabout a mini series of just Eli, used to test interest is more SGU.

btw: does it take any power to use the ancient stones ?!

I'll go before this turns into waffling.

i really enjoyed this stargate iteration. it was dark and paranoid to much of the same tone as BG. it wasn't a swashbuckling romp from world to world saving the galaxy from this season's big baddy. and i didn't want that. i was upset when i heard universe was getting axed. some say it's slow. that's fine though. again, i didn't want SG-1 v2.0. i wanted a character driven stargate and got what i wanted. sadly, i apparently am in the minority. The worse part is this got better and better as season 2 went on.

now for the finale. loved it. action, space battles, dilemma, sacrifice, and uncertainty abounded all thru the last hour. it is a good finale. does eli make it? does he not? enough of a cliff hanger to hook you, but not enough to p*** you off. it's too bad this isn't coming back. i'm hoping they get wise and at the minimum, start back up the planning for a movie, whether it be straight to video or straight to TV.

well done, boys and girls... well done.

word of for zwix, ill hold you to that promise!

SGU really picked up in the ending ... Really enjoid the series. But im guessing the SciFi term is over, now that so many scifi's is getting the axe (Outcasts... Good show).

Hope they planning a ending movie as well.. Still waiting on the SG1 3rd, SGA's ending movie too..Come on Brad and Rob!

from http://josephmallozzi.wordpress.com/2011/04/17/april-17-2011-until-we-meet-again/ it looks like a dvd ain't gonna happen, and maybe that's a good thing, cos trying to fit in everything they'd need to round of the series satisfyingly would imho be impossible. If the goal of Destiny was to uncover the origin of the universe they would need more than 1hr20mins.
I'm still gonna keep my fingers crossed for the next 3 years in the hope of an Eli based ep one-shot and then another SHU season, but I don't think that's gonna do nuttin.

I liked this version too. It was dark, more human, more real. I always thought of the difference between this series and SG1 like Babylon 5 was different from the Star Trek universe. Star Trek envisioned this utopia, but we know that wouldn't happen. B5 was full of crime in the lower levels that the security team couldn't stop, and finally had to tolerate. That just seemed to make it more realistic to me.

The central problem with this show and many others to die an early death (V, The Event, etc), is that they don't really produce stand alone episodes like SG1 did. You need to keep up with the series to fully enjoy it. Even a show as popular as Lost (and Heroes to some extent), saw their ratings fall over time as viewers gave up trying to stay current with the show. I think it is inevitable and why these types of shows will become dinosaurs.

Now if the networks would try repeating the current episode about 5 or 10 times scattered over their broadcast/cable channels and make deals with their affiliates to run them at other times, maybe they might survive.
