The cast returns to the studio after their Christmas break, ready to get the show back in swing for the new year. While the cast and crew prepare for their first show, Danny continues to pursue Jordan. Meanwhile, Matt tries to win a date with Harriet by bidding on her in an online auction. However, Matt doesn't realize that winning the date will be the beginning of the end for them. Elsewhere, Jordan meets Hallie, the new Vice President of Alternative programming, but their meeting is anything but perfect.

Timothy Busfield (Cal Shanley) does not appear in this episode, though his voice is heard at the beginning of the episode. | Ratings: 7.41 million viewers | Guest Host: None featured.
Musical Guest: None featured. | Breaking the Fourth Wall
Wilson White: Well this seems to me like a good time for a break.
Although the quote can be taken literally in the show after he realizes the overwhelming number of people who want him to be fired, the show actually goes to a commercial break after he says this, thus, breaking the fourth wall. |

Episode Quotes |
| |
Jack: Ted, believe me, I wish this was a fight for ethics. I wish this was a conversation about the integrity of the news. But it's not. It's about preventing ourselves from being a laughingstock.
Atkins: Well, I don't feel like a laughingstock.
Jack: That's only because you're a moron.
(pause)
Atkins: Wilson, you're backing up what he said?
Wilson: Yes, including and especially your being a moron. | Hallie: He got your order wrong.
Jordan: No, this is what I eat while I'm waiting for the food. | Jordan: Danny, you shouldn't be in the studio alone.
Danny: Matt's here.
Jordan: Matt's there because with Harriet gone, it's like someone moved his food dish. |
