In the aftermath of Matt and Harriet's broken relationships, flashbacks tell the story of how Matt and Harriet met for the first time. Meanwhile, Danny and Jordan's relationship continues to grow and Tom and Dylan stress over whether or not their sketch will survive the "Friday night slaughter".

The name of the writer that was fired back when Matt started working for Studio 60, Tim Batale, is an anagram of Matt Albie.

The flashbacks shown in the episode were from 1999 -- on the TV there were notes about airplanes preparing for Y2K.

Episode Quotes

Matt: Are you senile?
Cal: Me? I hope so, 'cause if I've got further to fall --

Jordan: (on the phone) Hi, this is Jordan McDeere. I'm the President of NBS west coast entertainment.
Danny: Yes ma'am.
Jordan: I'm concerned that not enough of your cameras are aimed at her chest.
Danny: Well, I got all four of them working, but this is just dress. If you want I can bring in some IMAX equipment tonight.

Matt: Well, that's what I wanted to ask you about. You're able to work when you feel like that?
Diana: No, but I'm able to drink when I feel like that. Then I'm able to work.

As mentioned in the episode, this is the second time that the White Stripes were supposed to perform on Studio 60, but once again a replacement had to be found for them. The first time that the White Stripes canceled occurred in "The Cold Open".

The concept of "The Friday Night Slaughter" was first mentioned in "The Long Lead Story" when Tom describes the process of the Friday Night Slaughter to the rehearsal audience.
