Episode Quotes

Kari: Why did Matt want to be a writer?
Harriet: Matt wanted to write so people would like him.

Jack: If a bomb goes off after we got a warning, do you know what will happen to our insurance premiums?
Cal: Yeah. Plus people will get hurt.
Jack: I guess it would be fundamentally wrong of me to leave the building, get in my car, drive as far away as possible.
Cal: Yeah, I’m going to go back to work.
Jack: It’s going to be a good show tonight?
Cal: Don't see how.

Allison Janney: All right. You know what? That’s it…. The whole night has been a complete disaster. The prop guys walked out because Danny Tripp is an idiot. And there were no cue cards. And I had no cash in my wallet. And the machine gun went off a half hour after I got shot.
Cal: (via the ear piece) Allison, Allison. I turned off your mic after you said "That’s our show." Nobody can hear you. You’re just coming off like a madwoman. Now, I’m turning you on in the control room. If you can hear me say, "Thank you."
Allison Janney: Thank you.
Cal: It was a bad show…. I mean classically bad. But it still beats digging a hole for a living, right?
(Allison laughs)
Cal: Tell me you still didn’t have the time of your life tonight.
(Allison enunciates “Thank you”)

Robbie: Why wasn't it on the news?
Jack: It's Friday night!
Robbie: Aren't bomb threats a big deal?
Jack: You'd think so, wouldn't you?

Cultural References

During the episode, a PA carries around a flamingo centerpiece and later a large lawn-sized flamingo is in guest host Allison Janney's dressing room. In The West Wing, Allison Janney's character, C.J. Cregg, Secret Service codename was "Flamingo."

The chemistry between guest host Allison Janney and Timothy Busfield (Cal Shanley) was similar to the chemistry between Allison Janney and Timothy Busfield's characters, C.J. Cregg and Danny Concannon, respectively, on The West Wing. Like in this episode, C.J. and Danny would bicker back and forth, but ultimately had a romantic relationship.
