The Joker has attacked Bruce Wayne and Lois Lane during a romantic dinner, kidnapping Lois and nearly killing Bruce. Now, Bruce must assume the role of Batman in order to rescue Lois, though Superman intends to do the job himself. Later, Superman, as Clark Kent, hears some troubling news regarding Lois’ future.

Bruce Wayne: Three nights and not so much as a green hair.
Clark: Of course you have been dividing your time between work and Lois.
Bruce Wayne: Is that a problem?
Clark: Let's just say I'm concerned. Your reputation is dubious, in and out of costume.
| Dan Turpin: Swell, now Gotham is sending us their wackos.
| The Joker: (to Superman) More powerful than a locomotive!... And just about as subtle.
| The Joker: I know you're trying to cheer me up, Harley, but you see, every time I blow a billion dollar deal IT REALLY KILLS MY APPETITE!!

| When Superman crashes through the ceiling of the warehouse where the Joker was keeping Lois, you can see the hole in it before he comes through.

| The Joker: (about Superman) More powerful than a locomotive!... And just about as subtle.
This is an in-joke reference to the The Adventures of Superman's opening narration:
"Faster than a speeding bullet. More powerful than a locomotive. Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Superman! Yes, it's Superman, strange visitor from another planet who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men. Superman! Who can change the course of mighty rivers, bend steel in his bare hands and who, disguised as Clark Kent, mild-mannered reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper, fights the never ending battle for truth, justice and the American way!"
