Episode Quotes

Mercy: He's a completely different person.
Lex Luthor: Soon to be a very dead one. I don't know what twist of fate caused this change, but Superman's handed us the perfect opportunity to destroy him. I intend to exploit it.

Jimmy: (to Lois) Are you CRAZY?!... Dumb question...

Episode Goofs

Lex says that ever since Superman first appeared in Metropolis, Project Achilles has secretly monitored all his activities. If that's so, shouldn't Lex know Superman's secret identity by now? Or the whereabouts of his Fortress of Solitude?

Cultural References

Lex Luthor: Ever since he first appeared in Metropolis, Project Achilles has secretly monitored all his activities.

In Greek mythology, Achilles was the son of Peleus and Thetis. Thetis held Achilles by his heel and dipped him in the magic river Styx to make him invincible. His only weakness was the heel that was not immersed in the river. Achilles was killed by being shot to the heel with a poisoned arrow. Therefore, the expression "Achilles' heel" became to designate something's or someone's weakness or vulnerable spot.

Episode References

This episode is loosely based on The Dark Side, an Elseworlds's tale in which Kal-El's rocket lands on Apokolips instead of Earth. Among other similarities, Superman also bears a black-and-red armor and Darkseid adopts him and attempts to invade Earth.
