<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Jane Peterson is a waitress working at Big Gerson's, a bar & grill. She calls her sister Olivia on the phone and wonders what to do about the boy she dated, and if he's interested in her. Jane admits she just needs the truth and hangs up. The chef then tells her that she's pathetic, and that he added something of his own into it. Jane takes the food out and the manager talks about how Jane is less attractive than the other waitress. As she delivers food to an elderly woman, the woman tells Jane that she once ran over a homeless man. A girl talks about burning her sister, and a bus boy says that Jane gives him the creeps. She finally takes a gun from the drawer, goes outside, and calls Olivia for help. Olivia tells her that she's a freak and should kill herself. Jane takes out the gun and shoots herself in the head.

While Sam gets food, Dean calls Bobby and insists that Sam threw him to the vampire. Bobby says if Dean is right, it's something they've never seen before, and tells Dean to be professional. Dean insists that Sam has been different ever since he came back, and agrees to watch Sam for now until Bobby can figure out what's going on. Sam comes over and tells him about Jane's suicide and three others, and they head out to investigate.

The brothers pose as FBI agents and talk to Olivia's sister. She explains that Jane was having a bad time and she tried to cheer her up. Sam studies her intently and then says he can read her tell, and he knows that she's lying. He bluntly demands the truth and Olivia reluctantly admits that she told Jane to kill herself and has no idea why. As she confesses, Sam sneers at her.

Dentist Paul Conley is working on a friend, who admits he doesn't want to be there. As Paul works, his friend tells him that his wife makes him sick, and he has urges. He then boasts about how he had sex with Paul's daughter, Melissa, when she was over for a slumber party with his daughter. Paul goes berserk and rams his drill into his friend's mouth.

At their motel, Dean calls Bobby who admits he hasn't found anything. Bobby warns that the worst-case scenario is that Sam is just Sam. Dean gives him a day and says after that, he'll handle it. Dean tries to call Lisa, who refuses to take his call. Sam returns and tells him about the dentist, and suggests they talk to him in jail. Dean responds by saying he'll stay behind and do research. Sam is surprised but agrees.

At the police station, Sam talks to Paul's assistant. Afterward, Sam calls Dean to tell him that Paul hung himself, and the assistant told him what she overheard. Dean figures that people were cursed to tell the truth, and then the person hearing the truth went berserk. Sam goes to the morgue while Dean checks out the dentist's office. When he gets there, Dean discovers that Paul played the saxophone and had a weekly appointment at a music store. Remembering that Jane owned a tuba, Dean goes to see the owner, Harry, The man has no idea how the two might be connected, but notes that he had a rare antique horn stolen on the same day that Jane died.

Back at the motel, Dean does some research and finds photos of the Horn of Gabriel. He tries to invoke Castiel, who instantly appears. Dean snaps at him, wondering why he hasn't come when he asked about Sam, and Castiel explains he has nothing to offer about Sam. However, he does know that Lucifer is still in the cage. When Dean wonders why Castiel is acting so oddly, Castiel admits that he's been at war and there are certain things that he 's been forced to do. When Castile hears about the Horn of Truth, he teleports away, searches everywhere, returns two seconds later, and tells Dean it isn't a horn. Before he goes, Castiel says that he'll make inquiries about what is happening with Sam.

Sam meets with the coroner and asks to see the other suicide corpses. The coroner finally admits that the other four bodies disappeared.

Dean goes to a bar to drink. As the news plays in the background, Dean gets a call from Sam about the disappearing bodies. He has also found out that one woman, Corey, died a week earlier than the others. They figure she's the one responsible and Dean says he'll meet with him in a few minutes. First he gets another drink and chats with the bartender, and says he'd just like the truth. The bartender immediately tells him that she can't get pregnant because her marriage is a sham, and she snorts oxy. She then admits she has no idea why she's saying the truth, and Dean realizes what's going on. As Dean leaves, a woman explains that she bought new breasts and wants attention. He takes a look and then calls Bobby. Bobby admits his fondness for Tori Spelling and pedicures. Dean realizes the curse works over the phone as well, and tells Bobby what's happening to him. He realizes that he can use the curse and hangs up on Bobby before the latter can say any more truth. Dean then calls Sam and leaves a message saying that he's coming.

Sam talks to Corey's sister and explains that Corey committed suicide. She explains that Corey had lost her cat and had a hard time at school, and lost her boyfriend. Corey thought he was cheating on her, and tried to find out the truth.

Lisa finally calls Dean and tells him that Ben won't talk about how Dean shoved him when he visited the last time. Dean tries to break off the call, but Lisa insists on telling him the truth, She warns him that he suppresses everything, and when Sam came back, she knew that she had lost Dean. Lisa then backs away from her statement, and Dean admits that he and Sam have issues. She responds by saying she and Ben can't be with him, and then hangs up.

Sam searches Corey's room and finds a hidden box with a cat's skull and some herbs. He comes downstairs and runs into Dean, who asks him for the truth and admits he's been cursed. Sam says that he froze when the vampire attacked Dean, and he was blaming himself for not helping his brother. Dean has no choice but to accept that as the truth.

Back at the motel, Sam figures that Corey used the skull and the herbs to cast a summoning spell. Research reveals that Corey summoned Veritas, the Goddess of Truth. Now, anyone that asks for the truth invokes Veritas, giving her a tribute... of human flesh. They figure they have to take Veritas out before she comes after Dean. The files indicate that Veritas is vulnerable to dogs and wants attention, and they consider who that might be. They break into the local newstation and steal the tapes of Ashley Frank, a major investigative reporter in the city. They finally locate footage where a dog barks at her and her eyes glow blue, confirming their suspicions.

The brothers follow Ashley to her home, then treat their knives with dog's blood and go inside. The apartment is filled with cats, and the Winchesters finally find a shrine to Veritas. Next to it is a room containing the partially-consumed bodies of the suicides. Veritas finds them and knocks them out with a wave of her hand. When they wake up, they discover that she's tied them to posts. Veritas then takes out Paul's tongue and eats it, explaining that she particularly enjoys the tongues of liars. As the works, Sam gets a hidden knife out and starts to cut through his bonds.

Veritas admits that she is looking forward to eating the brothers because they lie so much, and forces Dean to truthfully answer her questions. She asks him how he feels about Sam. Dean says that he feels better about Sam since hearing him tell the truth, but he's realized that Sam is acting like him. He admits that he claimed that he wanted out, but really he's only good at killing. Veritas then asks Sam what he feels about the brothers reuniting. He insists that he's fine with it, but Veritas realizes that he's lying and that he's not human. Sam finally breaks his bonds, tosses his knife to Dean, and attacks Veritas. She knocks him back, but Dean grabs a cutting attachment and stabs her. She transforms into her demonic aspect and turns on Dean, and Sam grabs his knife and kills her for good.

Dean grabs a knife and comes after Sam. Sam admits that there's something wrong with him since he came back: he can't feel any emotions. That makes him a better hunter, but he has no feelings. Sam asks Dean for help, and Dean puts down the weapon. He then turns and beats Sam unconscious.
