She borrows an outfit and leaves to meet with her boyfriend, Rich, go driving. He pulls off the road and says they can't arrive early, but she suspects he has an ulterior motive. They start to kiss but Lori's father calls. She ignores it and he starts to undress her, but he stops him. They're unaware that a shadowy figure lurks nearby, holding a hook. Rich tries again and she insists that he stops. They hear a screeching noise as the intruder drags his hook across the nearby signs and then fades away. Rich gets out to investigate and sees scratches appear on the car with no visible source. One of the tires is punctured and the rear windshield shatters. Startled, Lori is unable to find Rich outside. She locks the doors and closes the windows. Episode Quotes
Dean: Your, uh, half-caff double vanilla latte's getting cold over here, Francis.
Sam: Bite me.
Lori: So your brother seems very... spiritual.
Sam: He’s full of surprises.
Dean: So you believe her?
Sam: I do.
Dean: Yeah, I think she's hot, too.
Dean: So this is how you spent four good years of your life, huh?
Sam: Welcome to higher education.
Dean: I told him you were a dumbass pledge and that we were hazing you.
Sam: What about the shotgun?
Dean: I said that you were hunting ghosts, and spirits were repelled by rock salt. You know, typical Hell Week prank.
Sam: And he believed you?
Dean: Well, you look like a dumbass pledge.
(attending a frat party)
Dean: Man, you've been holding out on me. This college thing is awesome!
Sam: This wasn't really my experience.
Dean: Let me guess--libraries, studying, straight As. (Sam nods) What a geek.
(preparing a search)
Dean: All right, take your pick.
Sam: I'll take the house.
Dean: Okay. Hey, stay out of her underwear drawer.

Aren't you glad you didn't turn on the light?
The same urban legend occured in the movie Urban Legends, in which a college student arrives back to her dorm late, seeing her roommate sleeping, so she doesn't turn on the light. When she awakes the next morning, she finds her roommate brutally murdered, and written in her blood on the wall reads "Aren't you glad you didn't turn on the light?" A few other urban legends that occured in this episode also appeared in the movie, however, they were adjusted a bit during the episode.
Analysis
Hook Man
The tale of the Hook Man is portrayed very accurately in this episode. During the plot, the Hook Man targets men that were connected to a minister's daughter. In most variations of the story, the Hook Man goes after lovers usually in a car on lover's lane. Though Sam and Dean race to find the Hook Man's bones in order to destroy it, a way to get rid of the Hook Man is rarely specified in the story.
