Sam: So you got sidelined by a 13-year old girl?
Dean: Shut up.
Sam: I'm just saying, getting a little rusty there aren't you, kiddo?

Officer Kathleen: Your, uh… your cousin's looking for you.
Sam: Thank god. Where is he?
Officer Kathleen: I, uh… I cuffed him to my car.

(while trying to get out of handcuffs)
Dean: I gotta start carrying paperclips.

Pa Bender: Tell me, any other cops gonna come lookin' for you?
Dean: Oh, eat me! No, no, no...wait, wait. You actually might.

Sam: I was looking for you.
Jenkins: Oh yeah?
Sam: Yeah.
Jenkins: Well, no offense, but this is a piss-poor rescue.

Cultural References

Kid: Godzilla vs. Mothra.
Dean: That's my favorite Godzilla! So much better than the original, right?

Dean and the young boy are referencing the Godzilla movie series including 1954's Godzilla, 1962's Godzilla vs. Mothra , and the remakes: 1992's Godzilla vs. Mothra and 1998's Godzilla.

Jenkins: Ned Beatty time, man.

This is a reference to the movie Deliverance which starred Ned Beatty, Voight, Burt Reynolds, and Ronny Cox. The four men play city men who decide to go canoeing and run into dangerous mountain men.

Dean: If I tell you, will you promise not to make me into an ashtray?

Serial killer Ed Gein often used body parts from his victims to make furnature or decorations, including skulls turned into ashtrays.

Episode References

When the computer shows the details about Dean's death, it's refering to the episode "Skin" in which one of the shapeshifters died while in Dean's form.

Analysis

The Benders

The story of the Bender family is very similar to that of the 1974 horror film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre in which a family of cannibals in Texas abduct, torture then kill customers at their gas station. Though the family in this episode is given a seemingly mystical element, their use of humans as hunting targets and prey ties in closely to the story in the film.
