Hunted - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Dr. George Waxler is interviewing Scott Carey, who explains that as of a year ago, he discovered he had an ability to touch something and electrocute it. When Waxler implies he doesn't believe Scott's claim, Scott offers to shake on it. Waxler declines, and Scott explains that the "Yellow-Eyed Man" comes to him in his dreams and tells him to do awful things. Scott has refused so far, but warns that the Yellow-Eyed Man has plans for him.

Later, Scott walks home and wonders if someone is following him. As he gets to his car, he sees a man with a knife in the window's reflection. He turns but the man stabs and kills him before he can do anything.

Dean tells Sam that before John died, he told him that he wanted Dean to watch over his brother and take care of him. However, this time was different because he wanted Dean to save him and nothing else mattered. And if Dean couldn't save Sam, he had to kill him. Sam insists that Dean had no right to keep that information from him, and Dean says he didn't want to have to live with the knowledge. He wants to lay low for a while, and Sam wonders if he wants to do it in case he turns into a killer. Dean insists that things are out of control, and admits that he deserves Sam being pissed at him. However, he asks Sam for some time to think things through.

Later, the brothers check into a motel. Sam quickly slips way and steals a car. He drives to the address of an abandoned house and breaks in. However, he breaks a trip wire, setting off a hand grenade, and is blown to bits...

And a woman named Ava Wilson, living in Peoria, wakes up from her nightmare of seeing Sam die.

Sam goes to the roadhouse and Ellen is waiting for him. She notes that Dean has been calling to try and find Sam and asks why, but Sam ducks the question and notes that Jo has been gone for weeks. Her daughter has decided to go hunting, and Ellen admits that she was wrong for blaming John for what happened to her husband. Sam asks what happened, but Ellen refuses to answer. He asks Ash for help conducting a nationwide search of people with powers like him, Ash quickly comes up with three names, and Scott Carey is the fourth. He's confirmed that Scott was murdered in Lafayette, Indiana a month ago, and the police haven't turned up a suspect. As Sam leaves, Ellen says that she has to call Dean, but Sam asks her not to so he can find the answers for himself.

In Lafayette, Sam talks to Scott's father, who explains that Scott changed starting a year ago. His son suffered from nightmares and depression, but never talked about what he saw. Sam takes a look at Scott's room and finds pill bottles proscribed by Dr. Waxler. Sam takes a bottle and then searches the closet, finding a mosaic of yellow eyes. As Sam goes back to his motel, someone watches him from the shadows. When she approaches him, Sam grabs her and the woman introduces herself as Ava Wilson. She explains that she's been having dreams starting a year ago, and "saw" Scott get killed in a parking lot at the same time that he died. She saw a newspaper article about Scott's murder and realized that her dreams are coming true... and she had a dream of Sam dying. Ava tracked him down from the motel stationary she saw in her dream. Sam explains that she must be one of the psychic children and they're connected.

Ellen calls Dean and tells him that she heard from Sam but promised not to tell where he was going. However, she figures Dean needs to protect his family and tells him that Sam is in Lafayette.

At the motel, Ava suggests that Sam leave town before he's caught in the explosion. However, Sam insists that he has to find out what's going on with the psychic children. Disgusted, Ava starts to leave, but Sam warns that if she leaves, she'll never know the truth about herself or her visions.

Ava goes to see Dr. Waxler and distracts him while Sam slips in and steals Scott's file. They listen to a tape recording of the interview and Scott explaining that he can electrocute people with a touch.

Dean arrives at Sam's motel and sees Sam with Ava, and figures Sam is getting some. Meanwhile, Sam and Ava listen to the tape and Scott warning that the Yellow-Eyed Demon plans to turn them into soldiers. Ava wonders what he means and how that can happen, but a shot shatters the window. Hunter Gordon Walker is shooting at them from a nearby rooftop. As Sam gets Ava to cover, Dean attacks Gordon. Gordon manages to knock him out.

Sam and Ava come to the rooftop a few minutes later and find a shell casing. Sam realizes that an experienced shooter fired at them and calls Dean for help. Dean is tied up and Gordon is holding the phone to his head. The hunter forces Dean to play along and gives him the address of the building where they are. Sam realizes that Dean has secretly given him a code word meaning that he's in danger, and writes down the address from Ava's nightmare on a piece of hotel stationary.

At the abandoned home, Gordon explains that Sam is now fair game as a monster.

Ava wants to help but Sam tells her to go home and stay out of harm's way. She agrees but asks him to call and let her know that everything's all right.

Gordon explains that he was doing an exorcism and the demon mentioned a coming war. He forced the demon to explain that psychics would fight on the demons' side, and Gordon knows that Sam is one of the psychic children. A month ago he found Scott Carey and killed him. Gordon is well aware that Dean warned Sam, and has set a hand grenade with a tripwire on the back door where he figures Sam will come in. When Dean points out that Sam won't fall for it, Gordon shows him a second hand grenade. He apologizes and promises that Sam's death will be quick. Gordon sets the tripwire trap while Dean insists that Sam won't become a monster. Gordon figures that he will some day, and is surprised that Dean is getting so emotional. He sympathizes with Dean but notes that John would have killed Sam if he had to.

Sam drives to the address of an abandoned house and looks in. He sees Gordon and Dean and sneaks around to the back .He breaks in and Gordon hears him. Sam slips in and the hand grenade goes off. Gordon waits to see if his trap worked, and then the second hand grenade goes off. The hunter goes to investigate and finds Sam's right shoe. However, Sam gets the drop on him and tells him to drop his rifle. Gordon obliges and taunts Sam into shooting him. He then attacks, knocks him back through the wall, and prepares to stab him. Sam trips him, grabs the gun, and prepares to shoot him. Gordon dares him to fire, saying it'll prove Sam is the monster he's been claiming. Sam simply knocks him unconscious and then frees Dean. Dean wants to kill Gordon, but Sam assures his brother that the hunter is taken care of. As they leave, Gordon comes out behind them and shoots. The Winchesters run into the woods and take cover, and Sam tells Dean to trust him. The police pull up and arrest Gordon, and find his cache of weapons.

Later, Dean calls Ellen and accuses someone at the roadhouse of giving away Sam to Gordon. She warns that any hunter there could have put things together, and she has no control over them. As the brothers drive away, Sam leaves a message for Ava but she doesn't answer. As they drive away, Dean suggests they take off for a while. Sam figures they can't run from his destiny and Dean can't protect him from it. He tries to call Ava again but still gets no answer. He has a bad feeling and they drive to Ava's home in Peoria. They go in and find Ava 's fiancé dead, his throat cut. There's sulphur on the window and Ava's engagement ring is lying on the floor.
